So close, but yet so far

Kevin McDowellI was perusing some Erie websites tonight as I work on the as-yet-unannounced project, and I was looking at WICU’s new website. It’s not bad, better then their old site with all the java scrolling bars and what not.

Then I noticed in their code they’re offering an RSS feed of their news. Nice, I thought, someone out there is starting really get RSS. Then I looked at the feed and it was broken. The error seems to be in one of the news stories, on line 42, where there’s this snippet that’s breaking it, from the article “Counter-Terrorism Experts Gather At Edinboro:”

<p />…</p>

If they just fix that news entry that’s breaking it, they’ll be golden, which is very cool.

You can do it, WICU – be the first local station to really offer RSS feeds of your news, and publicize the fact you have RSS – don’t hide it! Be proud!

speaking of broken rss… i’m getting this error on the erie blogs sidebar…

“Warning: MagpieRSS: Failed to parse RSS file. (mismatched tag at line 42, column 261) in /home/.vaquero/richardz/erieblogs.com/magpierss-0.61/rss_fetch.inc on line 238″

Yep, it’s because of their feed. I added it to the custom news gatherer and it’s breaking it. Maybe I’ll take it out until its fixed.

I need to learn more about that. I’d like to feed my blog into another page. Do you know of any good resources to learn up on it?
