Fascinating read today in this story (registration required) by the Erie newspaper about Greg Rubino. Rubino is the star FBI witness against Mayor Rick Filippi in the land deal mess near the former Hammermill plant. Attorneys for Filippi have found court records that mention Rubino in a cocaine case.

school year. The Erie School District receives $135,000, the Millcreek School District receives $150,000 and the Harbor Creek School District receives $100,000. Project 720 was named for the number of days a student spends in high school from the beginning of 9th grade to the end of 12th grade.
The Gannon University annual Regional Summer School of Excellence was held in July. At the conclusion of the program, organizers honored a number of students. Erie’s Black Family Foundation made a gift of $55,000 this week to the Mercyhurst College Institute for Intelligence Studies (MCIIS). Samuel “Pat” Black III owns or controls over $250,000,000 in publicly traded stock of Erie Insurance. I’m not sure how much in privately held Class B (voting) shares he owns or controls.
Mercyhurst College has been named a Campus Technology Innovator by Campus Technology magazine for the college’s use of a software program that serves as a Internet research tool in the intelligence studies department. The monthly magazine, which covers the use of new technology in higher education, highlighted Mercyhurst in its August issue. Bill Welch of Mercyhurst announced this news in the comment section of my blog entry on Tuesday. (Thanks again.)

The City of Erie’s Celebrate Erie summer festival needs volunteers to fill various positions. Call 814-870-1269 if you have a few hours to spare the weekend of August 19-21. The fest was renamed CelebrateErie four years ago and I still see people looking for info on We Love Erie Days.

This is accomplished by driving a course that is designated by traffic cones on a low hazard location such as a parking lot.
I’ve mentioned a number of times that Dave Lefebre of Erie is a pro on the FLW Bass fishing tour. The FLW wanted to have a bass tournament in Erie last year but the a–holes from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission refused to waive the culling regulation, getting your limit and still be able toss back a smaller fish for a larger one. The fish commission board voted to abandon the rule, effective next year. Look for a tournament stop in Erie or Pittsburgh stop next year.
Justin Verlander has been sent to Lakeland, FL first for a couple of weeks of rest and then to try and strengthen his shoulder.
The Professional Bowlers Association Tour Eastern Region Open at York, PA takes place this Saturday and Sunday. Bob Learn Jr will compete in the tourney.

The September 17 boxing match between Julio Cesar Chavez and Lou Bizzarro Jr of Erie in Phoenix has been canceled. They fought about the fighters weights for the fight.

Dennis, here’s a page about Samuel Black’s ERIE holdings: http://biz.yahoo.com/t/32/4069.html
It’d be nice if we could have a “view” on the site that filtered posts (articles) by author (poster). That way I could have my “Erie News” like it was in the olden days without other posts interjected between them.
It would also be nice to have an option to display the full posts instead of having to be redirected to read the entire post.
Nice site though.
It would also be worthwhile to note that having the comments page when posted redirect to the main page is probably not the best action, a simple “Your Post Has Been Submitted” page would do better IMHO.
Wow. You don’t like my posts do you? There’s only one Dennis, and he’s the master of what he does. I like to come at things for a different angle.
Also, I fixed the comment bug. We’re still finding out things here and there.
I agree that Dennis is the master at what he does. I find out more information from his post than anywhere else. He is the master at Erie info.
i agree with nick that the full post should be showed. if not on the site, at least do it on the rss feed. it’s annoying having to come back to the site when the purpose of an rss aggregator is to view sites in one place.
maybe you could do something like richard’s got on his site and just use some javascript to display the rest of the post.
and i like everyone’s posts on here (not just dennis’s), but having a little list of authors, and the ability to see just their posts, would be kinda cool. especially if you add more people posting to the site.
Good idea Ron about using Richard’s post script, I’ll do that. As for the RSS feed, when you click on an item in that you are taken to the full post automatically, not the home page. They look similar, but trust me, you’re on the archive page.
Geez, I go away for a couple of days to Chicago and the place falls apart. Get on the ball Mike! These people know what they want! I can help out when I return by Monday.
Chicago is great by the way…
It’s handled RichardZ. Last night, I got the display code to work and tonight I’ll work on author pages.
Awesome guys… Richard / Mike I look forward to reading your posts as well! :-D
