Dr Gulam Moonda of Hermitage PA was shot and killed along the Ohio Turnpike near Cleveland last May. Damian Bradford of Erie PA is a ‘person of interest’ in the case. A search warrant recovered a number of items from his home. Bradford still hasn’t been charged in that crime but he is behind bars on an unrelated drug charge. Bradford was allegedly having an affair with the doctors wife and she was paying the rent on his apartment. The two allegedly met in a drug rehabilitation center. On Thursday, federal investigators turned down a request to have the seized items returned to Bradford.
There are a couple new businesses opening in Erie. The news Buffalo Wild Wings Grill and Bar by the mall opens on Monday. The Tim Hortons on East 12th Street is also about ready to open its doors.
Nexstar Broadcasting Group owns and operates WJET-TV and leases WFXP in the Erie, the 142 largest television market in the US, along with 45 other stations. The company reported a $6.1 million loss for the fourth quarter and a $48.7 million loss the year. Net revenue was down 12.8 percent for the quarter and down 8 percent for the year.
The Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity at 109 German Street will be holding their Russian Maslenitsa Festival beginning from 3-10 pm on Friday March 3, 2006. This church is gorgeous. Come visit their re-creation of an authentic Russian village with hand-painted “storefronts” and vendors selling traditional Russian food and drinks. Entertainment includes Russian ballet selections by the Lake Erie Ballet, folk music by the Great American Gypsies and an amateur folk “wedding” performance. Homemade baked goods and Russian gifts also for sale as well as a 50/50 drawing. Admission is free.

McDowell’s Jake Anderson and the Strong Vincent duo of Maurice Williams and Donte Harden will be attending the Scout.com 2006 All-American Football Combine in Pittsburgh Saturday. Anderson is an OL who is being recruited by Marshall, West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Penn State. Williams is a WR prospect and already has a scholarship offer from Pittsburgh. Anderson is a running back prospect who has attracted the interest of Pittsburgh.
Canisius and the Mercyhurst College men’s hockey team play a pair of important games this weekend. The Hurst is 1 point out of first place in Atlantic Hockey. Canisius senior forward Josh Henry of Erie returns home on Saturday for the Lakers home game.

Wow, I wasn’t aware that Damien Bradford is from Erie. I’m from Pittsburgh and was home when all of that happened in Ohio. It, obviously, was the biggest story on TV at home. Bradford has/had an apartment in Beaver County, but the news never made mention to Erie being is real home.
On a side note, I think it’s great how I can read a lot of news/information on this site and then later that day or the next day it’ll be on the local news or in the paper. It’s great, to me atleast, that ErieBlogs.com is one step ahead of the local media.

Agreed Bobbo. I usually stop here for news on Erie other than checking out that newspaper rag or the pisspoor tv station sites. Makes me thankful for the PG and Trib sites we have. One thing Pittsburgh doesnt lack is online news resources.

The good ones leave because Erie is a starting market. The folks start here and move on up. Trina Orlando (the new morning/noon anchor at JET) will move on up at some point, too. She’s also from the region (Pittsburgh area).
