Erie PA News and Events for Monday March 6, 2006

You can’t pick your family. The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat reported this unusual story today. Chuck Cummings was murdered on Dec 23 in Portage PA. Three days later his wife and step son were charged with the murder. Merry Christmas. Daughter Shannon Sweeney took over duties as head of household for the three small kids aged 5 years to 19 months. Shannon and the kids were forced to leave the family house by the authorities. Happy New Year. They found temporary shelter but that didn’t last long. They showed up on the doorstep of the Salvation Army where they stayed for another week. Sometime later, the mother of the 3 small kids, Tonya Yost finally claimed the kids and has moved back to her family home in Erie County. When asked why she didn’t come and get the children she mothered right after the murder and arrests she said she thought everything was all right. WTF.

  1. Matt says:

Charles Bowers may have been a great police officer, and he also proudly served this country as a member of the Marine Corps in Vietnam.

But why has there been zero media scrutiny of how Bowers has been maneuvering and positioning his BROTHER Randy towards the Police Chief job?

This has been going on for the past few months, and no one in the media has asked questions about it. Don’t we already have enough nepotism in Erie City jobs? It’s really pretty easy to see what’s been going on.

    1. Charles Bowers promotes his brother Randy to “Deputy Chief”

    2. Joe Sinnott decides to eliminate two out of the three Deputy Chief positions, and the Assistant Chief position. Yet, he leaves ONE Deputy Chief in the job-Randy Bowers (who had just been promoted into the job by his brother).

    3. Charles Bowers then decides to retire, and recomends his brother Randy as the “best” person to replace him.

This is total crap. Why aren’t there questions being asked about this?

It’s blatant and shameless nepotism in action!
