Congrats to Susan and Lance on buying your first house. They got a steal. I’d tell you the price but you wouldn’t believe me. For those of you who don’t know, I’m a real estate agent with Prudential Advantage Realty in Erie. A big thanks to Attorney Will Schaaf for the work on the closing.

Three Erie colleges and universities have joined to address underage drinking and high-risk alcohol consumption among college students in the Erie community. Mercyhurst College, Gannon University and Penn State Erie – the Behrend College have formed C-COMPASS (Campus and Community Partners Advocating for Safe Students), an organization aiming to address the problem of alcohol consumption among students in the full environment. They want to work with local tavern owners and employees, community officials and related agencies to improve that environment. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has awarded C-COMPASS an $11,500 grant to fund its efforts.

The Binghamton Mets beat the Erie SeaWolves 4-1 in the first of a three game series at Jerry Uht Park. The series continues at 6:35 pm today. Mike Pelfrey, the Mets’ top pick in the 2005 draft, is scheduled to make his first start for the B-Mets.

Josh Yanke has transferred from Gannon University to Clarion. The 6′ 8″ F only played in a handful of games on a Gannon team that was very shorthanded.

Gannon’s Dave Patroni has been invited to the NCAA Division II Great Lakes/Central Golf Super Regional for the fourth consecutive season.

The Johnstown Riverhawks host the first-place Erie Freeze at Cambria County War Memorial Arena tonight at 7.

United We Stand Theater Troupe production of “All Over Town” is running for the next couple of weeks. Performances are at St Patrick’s Cauley Auditorium, 215 East 4th Street in Erie, and will be held tonight, Fri-Sat, 5/5-5/6 and Fri, 5/12.

Penn State Behrend’s Annual Fasenmyer Engineering Conference, is being held on Saturday, April 29, from 8 am to 1 pm in Roche Hall. Named for the late Richard J Fasenmyer, 165 students will present 64 projects in 30-minute increments from 8 am to noon, followed by a keynote at 12:15 pm. The conference is open to the public.

The Cat Nation Fanciers 17th Annual All-Breed Cat Show will be held at the JMC Ice Arena, 423 West 38 Street, from 10-4 on Saturday April 29 and Sunday April 30. Cost is $5 per person.

The 12th Annual Disaster Preparedness Conference, titled “Back to the Basics: Are You Meeting the Benchmarks?” will be held this weekend at Penn State Behrend. The conference is Saturday and Sunday, April 29th and 30th, beginning at 9 am in Reed Union Building, Room 117. Four guest speakers from throughout the state will be featured.

The Roadhouse Theatre will perform “Reservoir Dogs” Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm through May 6. Reservations are a must for this show and can be made by phone at (814) 456-5656 or in person at the Theatre Box Office, 145 West 11th Street. Box Office hours are 2-6 pm Tuesday – Saturday. The Theatre accepts cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Tickets remain ever affordable at the Roadhouse, $8 regular, $10 riser and $12 VIP. Students with ID can see the show for just $5.


The Erie area March of Dimes WalkAmerica will take place at Presque Isle State Park of April 30. With Jenny very pregnant, Eden (Stephanie) is walking for her. The Allegheny College Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Ronald Stitt, will present a concert on Sunday, April 30 at 3:15 pm in Shafer Auditorium. Pre-concert music will be provided by the Allegheny Trombone Ensemble. Admission is free.

The kick-off party for the Epilepsy Foundation of Western/Central PA 4th Annual Erie SeaWolves Run/Walk for Epilepsy will be held next on Tuesday, May 2nd, 5:30 pm at the Palace Business Centres, 915 State Street.

The Mercyhurst College Political Science Department hosts Stafford T Thomas, professor emeritus of political science at California State University, Chico, who will lecture Friday, May 5, at 7 pm in Walker Recital Hall. His talk is free and open to the public.

Lake Erie Speedway will open on Friday May 12.

The Lake Erie-Allegheny Earth Force 4th annual Bike Around the Bay will be held in Erie, PA on May 20, 2006. Enjoy Erie’s bay and lakeshore as you bike 10, 30 or 50 miles around scenic Presque Isle State Park and bayside vistas. Check out the new Tom Ridge Environmental Center on your route. Funds raised benefit the Earth Force program serving 2,500 youth in western Pennsylvania. Bring the entire family. Grand prize: Cannondale bike and tag-a-long.
