Erie PA News and Events for Sunday November 26, 2006

The law allowing Internet-based competitive bidding by Pennsylvania municipalities went into effect on September 5. The law also authorized reverse auctions. In reverse auctions, vendors see a ranking of bids without knowing the actual bids and can lower their offers to win the auction. eDynaQuote is a reverse auction company based in Erie. The City of Erie isn’t using eDynaQuote. City officials fail to grasp the idea of saving money. Tax and spend. For 2007, the mayor proposed a 12 percent property tax increase. 1. Melissa says:

They can also see the dollar value of the bids. Also, they may not be fast to jump on reverse auctions, because, although they save money, they cost a pretty penny, too. If you don’t have your s*** together to actually put through an online competitive bid, then it’s pretty stupid to go and spend 30 grand on the reverse auction system now isn’t it?

  2. Based on what I read in the initial entry and the associated comment, it looks like there needs to be some clarification on generalities around internet-based competitive bidding, as well as pricing, etc., and eDynaQuote would be happy to provide additional information. Visit http://www.edynaquote.com or call me at 814.898.6545.

Regarding the City of Erie, the statement that they are not yet using eDynaQuote is correct, however, to their credit, they have been aggressively trying to identify item(s) or services that would be a good fit for reverse auction use.

  3. Melissa says:

In response, my comment was total generality and mostly sarcasm, however, auctions can show the dollar value of bid if the user opts to do so. Depends on the platform – depends on the purpose of use. 30K – total generality. That figure could be much, much larger depending on the provider/platform.

Could we please rename this site “News and Opinions of Erie, PA” ??? Considering we now have guest bloggers posting whimsical stories, it’s not exactly news…

  4. rich says:

The name of this site is “Erie Blogs: Sites and Blogs Dedicated to Our Lovely Town.” Each post has its own title and is not the name of this blog (each post also has the appropriate author listed). Think of individual essays with their own title but part of a larger book.

One last point. Never has this site been marketed as some kind of journalistic quality news organization. It’s a blog people, take it with a grain of salt.
