Windy M DeLeon of Erie was charged with stealing $22,000 from the Kwik Fill gas station and convenience store where she worked and gambling the money away at Presque Isle Downs and Casino. DeLeon was to have made 16 bank deposits with the money.

To help improve security in the Adhamiyah District, Soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team, with the support of local leaders, conducted a screening of residents of the eastern Baghdad district to fill security positions for the Critical Infrastructure Guard Force Aug 4-5. “Through such efforts, a lot of the pressure that falls on the Iraqi army to serve as security guards in protecting neighborhood buildings will be relieved,” said Erie, Pa, native 1st Lt Chadwick Knight, a targeting officer with 3-7th Cavalry.

Titled “Local Government and the Erie Economy,” the 2007 Economic Research Institute of Erie (ERIE) conference will address topics relevant to Erie and its surrounding communities, including the debate about consolidating the area’s local governments and the smoking ban. ‘Winds on the Lake’, a professional wind and percussion ensemble, will present a FREE outdoor concert titled “Salute to America” at 3 pm on Sunday, Aug 26. Fittingly, the performance will take place in the gazebo of the Pennsylvania Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home, which is located on Erie’s bayfront at 560 E Third St. In the event of rain, the concert will be held inside the facility. Winds on the Lake performs under the direction of Gary Viebranz, director of instrumental ensembles at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, and Matthew Inkster, director of bands at West Virginia’s West Liberty State College. In addition to patriotic favorites, “Salute to America” will include a performance of Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” and a special tribute to the armed forces.
