An arrest warrant was issued by University of Iowa campus police for Abe Satterfield of Erie and another man for charges involving sexual abuse. The incident allegedly occurred on October 14 at Satterfield’s on campus apartment. Satterfield and other person, Cedric Everson, were both members of the Iowa football team. They were both suspended from the team and transferred. Satterfield enrolled at IUP. He will be charged with second degree and third degree sexual abuse. Everson will be charged with second degree sexual abuse. Second degree sexual abuse charges involves threats or weapons. Third degree sexual abuse is for abuse against a persons will or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The max for second degree is 25 years and the max for third degree is 10 years.

Douglas S Malan in an article on Law.com pointed out a technological snafu by attorneys in court filings in the sex discrimination case of attorney Lorene F Schaefer against GE. Although passages in documents placed online were blacked out, if you cut and pasted into a word document, you could get the entire text. Oops. Schaefer was general counsel of GE Transportation in Erie but was later demoted.

Jockey Mike Ziegler recorded his 2,000th career victory on Sunday at Arapahoe Park. Ziegler began his riding career in 1987 at Erie Downs, the renamed Commodore Downs, in Erie. That was the final year for the facility.

Head Coach John T Reilly of Gannon University will conduct three sessions of basketball camp this summer. Sessions will be held June 9-13, June 23-27 and August 4-8. His coaching staff, area high school coaches and several of his players will serve as camp instructors. Penn State Behrend will host its second international conference on injection molding, “Injection Molding: Innovation and Emerging Technologies,” from June 10-12. The 2008 Brianlee Crosby Memorial Learn to Swim Program, sponsored by the City of Erie Summer Recreation Program and operated by the American Red Cross, Greater Erie County Chapter, will be held June 16 to August 8. Qualifications: All boys and girls enrolled in the first through sixth grades may participate in the program. PROOF of grade level must be presented at the time of registration. The program is FREE to City of Erie School District students. A parent or legal guardian must accompany each child to complete the registration form at the appropriate pool on the first day of each two week instructional period. Parents or guardians are also responsible for their child’s attendance and transportation needs. Appropriate swimming attire and cleanliness will be required at all pools in operation.
