Erie PA News and Events for Sunday, August 24, 2008

Federal prosecutors in the child pornography case against Jeremy Noyes are appealing a courts decision to allow him to remain free until his trial. Prosecutors argue that Noyes of Erie is a danger to the community and could establish a colony of sex slaves at any time. In an interesting twist, Noyes voluntarily reported to jail on Friday night, since the family he was staying with began to receive threats. While we can understand people’s frustration, there’s no reason to threaten the family he was staying with.

It was move-in day at colleges around the area as nervous parents and students acclimated themselves to their new homes. To those students, welcome to Erie! Students at Edinboro can do their parking registrations online, which is cool. Less cool: if you’re using a browser other then IE, you can’t access the system. You would think this was the 1990′s. Fail.

The movie that was to feature the Brig Niagara and bring in much needed revenue for the ship has been scrapped. The filming was set to begin in September before the plug was pulled. No reason’s been giving, but the movie was to feature Morgan Freeman, who was recently seriously injured in a car accident. The Brig Niagara crew even had a signed contract. The film was to co-star Pierce Brosnan and Saorise Ronan of Atonement.

Go ‘Wolves! The SeaWolves had another great night yesterday beating the Connecticut Defenders 4-1. Even though it would have been nice if the SeaWolves played like this for the entire season, it’s good to know they are ending the season on a high note.

  1. Cheryl says:

Regarding Jeremy Noyes – this whole story was a fiction he created to get his girlfriend Libby – a study partner at medical school to leave him alone. He told his stepfather this girl was on 5 different drugs and undergoing psychotherapy and he wanted to discourage her attention so he was going to put something gross on his computer so she would break up with him. His step father said he tried to tell him NOT to play with her head – she was on drugs. She obviously believed his fiction and was jealous when he talked to another girl from Holland on line. She took this story to the FBI and they believed it too. Any one who knows Jeremy knows this is fantasy and was a ruse to discourage Libby’s attention. He is not interested in little girls. His girlfriends have always been Grad Students or women close to his own age.

  2. Jenson says:

I’m not sure I buy into your theory, Cheryl. After gunmen terrorize schools and kill people, many friends and neighbors are shocked to hear that the person they knew committed such violent crimes. It’s natural to want to think the best of people, and it sounds like you have a connection with him and want to think the best.

A friend of mine found Noyes OK Cupid Profile online… and he mentioned a fondness for bondage in his profile. I’m not sure if the profile is still up because she flagged it as inappropriate in light of the news of his alleged issues.

I’m not going to judge guilt or innocence because it’s not my place to do so… However, both stories seem odd. Why wouldn’t an intelligent adult(I assume you have to be book smart to get into medical school) talk to his study partner/girlfriend and end things by talking through them instead of coming up with an elaborate plan to get caught in the act of being disgusting or “gross”?
