I'm tired of all these frightened Right -wingers calling Obama the Messiah and God etc. Where do they get this stuff? Obama is a man who has the talent of great communication skills. I think he speaks in a tone that is as christian as a politician can get but maybe that's what scares so many Republicans. I think people vote for whoever they feel like they can have a beer with . The problem is that greedy, selfish, and violant people want to have a beer with other greedy, selfish , violent people. So they are comfortable with the deceitful , lying, fear mongering that Palin and the whole McCain/Palin campaign expresses.They feed into it instead of unifying. It's sad that more republicans can't consider the nation and the world instead of being so focused on their own bottom line.

Believe it or not, there are countries that exist–peacefully, mind you–without the private ownership of guns. For example, in Japan, only certain police officers are legally allowed to own guns. Admittedly, the Yakuza also owns guns, but organized crime is something in itself.

I took a political science course in college about the Constitution, and I know I grumbled about the term papers, but after reading some of these comments, I realize now that I'm happy I took that course…

Communism: Classless society (in definition). In practice, we see Marxist theory become overrun by government and form a totalitarian state.

Socialism: Collective ownership and administration of production of goods, business. Socialism produces an egalitarian state.

Spread the wealth...is a far cry from the Socialism it's been accused of. I'm not saying this to troll this forum or start a pissing match, but from someone who's spent too much of their free time reading about Russian and Polish history...namely in the 20th century. The closest thing to socialism in our current government are the following examples (I'm only listing two for brevity):

1. Subsidies on agriculture - government has an influence on the supply and demand curve for crops. This subsidy creates a price floor, meaning the price paid per unit cannot go below a certain price. Subsidies are meant to sustain smaller farms, ensure farmers continue to produce, etc.

2. Government bailouts. Simply put, the government takes stake in a business. It's not quite to the effect of the government buying and controlling a business, but nonetheless, it's one step in that direction.

Best tip on this subject is to have a good grasp on macroeconomics. You'll find that there are indeed cases of concern against the Democratic party (namely in strict regulation of business practice) but the "Socialist tax" claims are merely a jab at a progressive tax structure - tax rate increases with income. Obama's plan is defined such that taxes (compared to current rates) will not require more payout unless your income is $250,000.00 or above for your household.

Socialist? No. Progressive tax rate? Yes. Fair? That's up to the voter to decide.
