The headline news for today has nothing to do with the election. It’s the weather. Yesterday, Erie saw it’s first snow fall of the season with more headed this way. The map above shows Erie is smack-dab in the middle of a Nor’easter heading our way with 3-6 inches of snow fall. A meteorologist from Maryland has a report on the season’s first real snow fall and mentions how his mother, who lives in Erie, dreads winter. Erie is definitely the wrong place to live if one dreads winter.
The weather also is making headlines due to a first ever in baseball: last night’s World Series game was suspended with the Phillies and Rays tied at 2-2 because of the weather and field conditions. The game will resume in Philadelphia when weather conditions are appropriate–we just don’t know when since today’s forecast predicts more rain and tomorrow rain and snow in the Philly area.

He’ll be in Erie this morning at 11:30 a.m. at the Cruise Boat Terminal on Holland Street, then head down to Meadville for a 2 p.m. rally in the Henderson Campus Center at Allegheny College. Obama held a rally in Pittsburgh yesterday at Mellon Arena. John McCain has also spent a good amount of time in PA lately.

The Erie Times-News has endorsed Kathy Dahlkemper in the 3rd Congressional District race. The Times-News has endorsed incumbent Phil English in his previous races. They ended their endorsement with this:
If Dahlkemper is elected to Congress, we will scrutinize her voting record as we do for English. And we will call on her to release her income tax records. We expect transparency of all political officeholders. She won’t get a free pass.

2008 was a good year for wine growers in Pennsylvania due in part to the warm, dry weather in October. Pennsylvania is the 5th largest grape producing state in the country with the number of wineries more than tripling since 1992 to 142 total in 2008.
Governor Rendell announced the investment of $66 million in 15 brownfields, drinking water and wastewater projects in 14 counties across the commonwealth. Most of the money approved, $62 million, is for low-interest loans with $4 million in grants. The money will fund 15 clean water projects including a project in Girard which received an $861,000 loan to replace nearly 3,000 feet of a sanitary sewer interceptor to prevent the wet weather discharge of raw sewage into Elk Creek.
