My wife’s plans for today, now that I’m back to work and our oldest is back at school: dismantle the Christmas tree, officially putting an end to the holiday season and starting the long season of dread known as January through March in Erie.
If you’ve got a fake tree, we assume you’ll be throwing it in a box and putting it back in your basement/attic. If you had a tree with an intact rootball, by all means replant that stuff and use it again next year. If you have a cut tree, you can recycle it! Here’s some info from Earth911.org:
Real Christmas trees can be recycled in a variety of ways. They are commonly turned into mulch and used in landscaping and gardening or chipped and used for playground material, hiking trails, paths and walkways. They are also used for beachfront erosion prevention, lake and river shoreline stabilization and fish and wildlife habitat.
Millcreek and Fairview Township residents can drop off their Christmas trees at the Millfair Recycling and Compost Center, 2301 Millfair Road. A $2 donation is required and proceeds go to the Emmaus Soup Kitchen.
The City of Erie’s tree recycling program runs through January 30. Trees will be collected on your normal trash night.
Have you taken your tree down yet?

Living in Florida, we have a little artificial palm tree we decorate – Oops sorry guys – lol – Have fun in the snow – I spent 41 years there – I can still remember the grey. Stay well. – May will be here soon and then you can see the sun again.
We did it last friday. Your poll is lacking options.
I don't put up a Christmas tree, however my Advent wreath is still out. Yesterday was Epiphany so I should put it away soon.
Any ideas for what to do with a decent fake tree (as far as donation)? We got a great deal on a clearance fake tree and we don't want to just chuck the old one.
Check St. Martins Center, Goodwill, Salvation Army, put a add up on Craigslist.
Maybe one of the local children's homes could use a new one.
