Critical Blood Shortage

Blood DropA critical shortage of blood has developed as a result of low donor turnout during the holidays. Levels of blood dropped across the board with the supply of type O Positive falling to critically low levels. The Community Blood Bank was able to ‘borrow’ 50 units of type O Positive blood from Indiana over the weekend but levels remain critically low.

January is National Blood Donor Month! The reason Congress chose January is because it is one of the hardest months of the year on the nation’s blood supply. To celebrate National Blood Donor Month the CBB is giving away a 42″ Hi Def Plasma TV to one lucky donor this January. Everyone who tries to give blood at any CBB blood drive now through January 31st is automatically entered to win.

“We hope we gets some extra donors this week.” Said Dan Desrochers Director of Marketing at the blood bank. “Start your New Year right by saving a life.”

All donors are strongly encouraged to donate at the Community Blood Bank, 2646 Peach Street. Community Blood Bank is open from 9a.m. 6p.m. Monday through Friday and until 7:30pm Tuesday night and Saturday 9a.m.-12:30 p.m. Photo ID required.

  1. Thanks for the mention guys. Things are picking up but we are still critically low on types O and type B blood. Wouldn't that be great if an Erieblog reader won the TV!?!
