And we have snow… and lot’s of it.  Be careful and plan ahead before you travel.

Police are still trying to identify the remains of a man beleived to be behind this past Tuesday’s shooting near Brown Ave and 25th Street. Although police are confident the body is that of 42-year-old Robert Daniels, a DNA test will need to be performed that can take up to three months. That is ridiculous as we all know after watching CSI that DNA tests only take minutes to get results.

Parade Street business owners aren’t pleased after learning the beautification project will extend from 6th Street to 12th Street, and not 26th Street as expected. City officials were invited to a meeting last night but did not attend. While $2 million sounds like a lot of money to cover six blocks, we’re not sure if it’s enough to do 20 blocks. We’re not completely sure what the project will entail, so it’s tough to say if it’s enough.

We’ve posted a new guide of local Twitter users. You can check it our right here or use the link in the menu at the top of the page. If you missed our post on Twitter this week, you can read it here.

Tests have determined that Bill Tiscenko, 52, died accidentally while in police custody on December 8, 2008. Toxicology tests report Tiscenko died of drug and alcohol toxicity.

Ian Enterline blogged yesterday that Emergycare CEO Richard Gibbons resigned this week. His interim replacement is William Haggerty. The resignation was confirmed by Emergycare.

Speaking of the Times, a commenter yesterday said 7 people were laid off at the Erie Times-News. Can anyone confirm this?

The community is responding to the blood shortage and Smith Provision has stepped up with a generous donation to encourage people to come and give blood. The next 200 donors to come and give blood will receive a package of Smith’s ham steaks. These fully cooked pre-sliced Ham Steaks are delicious and very easy to prepare; each package contains two generous portions of Smith’s award winning ham.

The Catholic Telegraph, the newspaper for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, featured a story on Father Johnathan Schmolt. Schmolt who is originally from Cincinnati, was ordained on June 6, 2008 and now serves as pastor at St. Jude the Apostle Church near Peninsula Drive.

State Street and Glenwood Park Avenue reopened yesterday. Yay.

Last week, $50.6 million was wagered at Presque Isle Downs Casino and Racetrack, and that’s a winner winner chicken dinner record, beating the previous high of $50.4 million. Don’t forget, last week included New Year’s Eve. Wow, that’s a lot of money. PID is more then welcome to send some to this site.

Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper’s office on the Bayfront is now officially open.

GE Transportation asked about 35 workers this week to take a short leave due to a slow down in projects. The leave is not considered a lay-off but instead a TLW (temporary lack of work).

Yesterday the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg kicked off by an unveiling a butter sculpture made from 900 pounds of Land O’Lakes butter from Carlisle, Pa. The sculpture is a tribute to the Pennsylvania National Guard. The butter will not be wasted. The sculpture will be brought to Lake Erie Biofuels here in Erie and turned into over 100 gallons of biodiesel and donated to the Pennsylvania National Guard.  That’s some serious cholesterol.
