Dahlkemper was assigned to the House Committee on Small Business and will Chair the sub-committee on Regulations, Health Care & Trade as well as serve on the subcommittee Rural & Urban Entrepreneurship.

Crystal Sherlock, the Corry woman who helped her husband kill a man suspected of molesting her husband’s son, is now on parole. Sherlock pleaded guilty back in December but since she already spent time in jail equivalent to her minimum sentence, she was able to be paroled. Her husband Terry Sherlock is serving 21 to 42 years in prison for the murder of Ken Himrod.

Brent Carey was found dead on New Year’s day at 38th and Ash streets. His death has now been ruled a homicide. Jermaine Vaughn admitted to punching Carey stating he couldn’t help beating Carey unconscious because he “hit[s] hard.”

The Erie International Airport has received $3 million from PENNDot’s Bureau of Aviation for the next phase of the runway extension project. The runway should open in 2050.

The Circle K convienence store on Glenwood Park Avenue was robbed again yesterday. At this point it may be more cost-efficient for the Circle K store to close and just put a few vending machines outside. We would like one of these, these and these.

Erie lawyer Dan Brabender has announced his candidacy for Erie County Judge. There are now 5 people vying for this position.

Some lucky dude won $76,768 this week at Presque Isle Downs. He was playing the nickel slots. We’ve tried that video blackjack game and quickly lost our money.

Erie Insurance will host an audio Webcast to discuss financial results for the fourth quarter and full-year 2008 on Friday, February 27, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. The Webcast will be broadcast live via the Company’s Investor Relations web site and will be available as an archive later that same day. Erie Indemnity will issue a press release reporting its results after the close of the market on Thursday, February 26, 2009.

The Erie Times-News has a story about Gannon University and its infestation of bedbugs. Bedbugs have been found 21 times at Gannon this academic year. Orkin man = stunned.

National Fuel announced results for the first quarter of its 2009 fiscal year (the quarter ended December 31, 2008) and is reporting a loss of $42.7 million or $0.53 per share. The loss is due to significantly lower commodity prices and reduced production of crude oil and natural gas which decreased 1.1 billion cubic feet equivalent (“Bcfe”) compared to the prior year’s first quarter, mainly due to lingering curtailments in the Gulf of Mexico caused by Hurricane Ike. All pre-hurricane production is expected to be back on line by the end of the second quarter. A conference call is scheduled for Friday, February 6, 2009, at 11:00 am Eastern Standard Time.

The Erie Otters play the Sault St Marie Greyhounds tonight and on Saturday the Otters will turn back the clock at the Tullio Arena when the Saginaw Spirit visit for a 7 p.m. start. The Otters will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Erie Golden Blades 1983-84 ACHL Championship with members of the championship team in attendance. The No. 11 Mercyhurst wrestling squad improved to 13-5-1 on the year with a 33-7 decision at Waynesburg. The Lakers stretched their winning streak to five meets with the win as they head into this Saturday’s quad meet against Kutztown and American International, beginning at 11 a.m. in the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

Penn State Behrend women’s basketball standout Natalie Engel (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District Academic First-Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Edinboro wrestling team won seven of ten matches on Thursday night to record its 22nd straight Eastern Wrestling League win, a 25-12 triumph at Bloomsburg. The 12th-ranked Fighting Scots improve to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in EWL action. Edinboro is now 23-0-1 in its last 24 EWL matches.

The Gannon wrestling team beat #17 Ashland 25-9 Thursday night at the Hammermill Center. Jacob Tazzi (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) recorded a pin in the 197-pound bout to lead the Golden Knights.

The Erie Art Museum’s Kids as Curators exhibit will open on February 6 and run through March 22, 2009 in the Annex Gallery. An exhibit of objects from kids’ collections, curated by kids for kids. This year we feature work of Harding Elementary, General McLane High School, and Walnut Creek Middle School. Sponsored by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences.

Gannon University’s Erie Chamber Orchestra will hold its monthly concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the University’s Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel, 520 Peach St. This performance will be the “Guess the Composer Concert.” Free and open to the public. Saturday, February 7 from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. there will be a guided ski tour of the Erie Bluffs. You will see animal tracks, winter landscapes and much more. If there is not sufficient snow, a hike of the same subject will still take place. No fee but you must register by February 1 and bring your own equipment. Bean Day is a fundraiser for the Second Harvest Food Bank. Attendees are invited to bring a bean-based entry to be judged and shared. Event will be held Saturday, February 7, 2009, from 5 – 9 p.m. at the Ss. Peter and Paul social center on 34th and Wallace. The cost is $5 per person or $15 per family.

“Raw Edges,” an annual favorite of Erie dance lovers, returns for its 11th season on Feb. 7-8, showcasing the Mercyhurst Dancers in cutting-edge choreography by promising new talent. The concert is a culmination of the Mercyhurst College Dance Department’s Choreography II and III courses taught by Mark Santillano and Tauna Hunter, respectfully. Performances of Raw Edges XI are scheduled Saturday, Feb. 7, at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center on the Mercyhurst campus. Tickets are $15 for adults; $12.50 for seniors and students; $5 for youths under 15; $1 for Mercyhurst students; and $7.50 for President’s Cardholders. Environmentalist, activist and attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will speak on “Our Environmental Destiny” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15 in Ford Chapel at Allegheny College. Kennedy will discuss the role that our natural surroundings play in our work, our health and our identity as Americans. Using examples gathered from relevant art, history, litigation and literature, he will remind listeners of their responsibility to protect and preserve the environment for future generations.
