YouTube of the Week: World of Music

When I was a teenager, I’d go to World of Music on W. 26th Street all the time. Mostly to drool at the expensive guitars, though occasionally I would buy some strings or picks.

This past weekend, I took my kids to World of Music. They’re both getting into music now – they love The Who and I think they both want to be Keith Moon, though my youngest does a very nice job at mimicking Pete Townsend smashing his guitar like in this video. I haven’t been there in a few years and they’ve really done a lot of work inside – renovating and moving all the sections around and it looks great. If you haven’t checked it out in awhile, you should. This time, we left empty-handed, though the kids wanted a drum set.

Later that evening, I caught one of their new TV ads. There’s a series of four or five and they’re great. They were created by local firm Black Sheep Media. Here’s one:

That's Steve, the drum specialist; he's always there with tips and whatnot. Knows the equipment very well. Pretty good little piece of drumming, too.

  2. This was a really fun series to produce. Ed Bernik and I (this is Joe from Black Sheep Media writing this) couldn't have asked for a more talented group of artists to work with. Steve Barone (the drummer), T.C. Smith (the country guitar player), Anthony Sardini (keyboard player) and Eric Brewer (the “shred” guitar player) just plain blew us away with their skills. Best thing about it, everyone's from Erie.

Ed here. Glad you liked the commercial, it was a ton-o-fun being able to create a series of cool spots for one of Erie's coolest stores. The crew at the World gave us carte blanche to put these together and it was inspiring to have one great local musician after the other walk in and play their “take” on 30 sec of fame(everyone of them could have jammed for an hour and had our attention). Maybe we should post the whole series (theres two more coming) besides the first four. Joe, get on that for me would ya!

  4. Joe and Ed,

That was a terrific spot…I love that this stuff is coming out of Erie!
