Erie native Ed Kindle, now living in Florida, blogged last week about a letter he wrote to the editors of Wired magazine. As a cancer survivor and with the recent passing of John Kanzius, he was inclined to voice his anger over Wired running cigarette ads in its magazine. Here’s a quick snip from his post.
I understand where the money comes to publish a magazine. I also understand the effects firsthand of tobacco use. I chewed tobacco and smoked cigars for 25 years. I almost died and I paid the price for my bad judgment.
I do not think that you can extol the heroism of the cancer survivors who read your magazine and the heroes such as Mr. Armstrong and accept advertising capitol from tobacco companies. This is not a good marriage, nor is it good business.
A recent Wired cover story talked about early detection of cancer.

I'd like to see what Wired mag has to say about that!
Just the tobacco industry trying to get our children addicted at an early age. Way to take up the fight Mike. You have my support!
Wired Magazine placed a twitter feed from Mr. Lance Armstrong in the current issue congradulating them on their part and on their story.
I sent a copy of my letter written to Wired Magazine to the Lance Armstrong Foundation hoping it would be forwarded to him.
Here is the response I received from the LAF. I have received no response form Wired Magazine or it's publishers.

“Hi Edmund,
Thank you for contacting the Lance Armstrong Foundation! We certainly appreciate your opinions about smoking cessation and supporting or not supporting those who promote tobacco products. We also feel that smoking cessation is an important and integral part of winning the war against cancer. Unfortunately, we are unable to forward emails and other correspondence to Lance. Thank you again for your email and your support!
Kind regards,
