Starting this afternoon, beer will be available for purchase at the Peach Street store.
The beer will be available in the in the restaurant area of the store. You will be able to buy beer to go along with the food you purchase (such as the chinese buffet) and you will be able to purchase beer to take out (up to 192 ounces.)
Beer sales at the West Ridge Road store should be starting up in the next few days.
If you go to Wegmans tonight to buy beer, first have one for us then post a comment and let us know what the experience was like.

It was a piece of cake to buy beer at Wegman's. The cashiers were friendly, as always. Very convenient to be able to pick up a few T-Bones and then get a six pack without having to make a special trip to a beer distributor.
How is the selection?
The selection is pretty good. I lucked out in that shortly after I bought my beer the store started having trouble with its price scanner. Now I guess the rest of the public will have to wait until Friday??? All-in-all the convenience of buying a six pack at the same place you get your groceries is great for me!
Very good selection for the first day… I'm enjoying a Magic Hat IPA right now. No cold beer, but I'm told coolers are on order and will arrive soon. Checkout was not a problem at all. Can't wait until the West side location is up and running.
I did count five State Police cars in the parking lot though… A litte overkill?
PA takes its first step in to the 21st Century!
Hahahaha Good for you. I bought Guinness in our 7-11 yesterday – lol
Quoting beerdude “PA takes its first step in to the 21st Century!” – kicking and screaming no doubt! lol
Oh wait – Maybe the state police were there to….yea! buy some beer! lol
Despite those who brag about how wonderful it is to obtain beer/alcohol anywhere, and not just a state liquor store/beer distributor, is only telling half the story. It can be quite obnoxious to see “party stores” (alcohol, cigarettes, lotto — vice stores) 5 to a street block. It's ugly and doesn't do much for the community (underage drinking and crime for example). There is something to be said about restricted alcohol sales. I hope that Pennsylvania finds a balance and that municipal governments explore reasonable zoning restrictions in conjunction with restricted liquor licenses.
I already commented on that – Down in Florida where we have a serious transient population being able to get booze anywhere adds to the appeal of the area for them and they don't exactly concern themselves with recycling. It also adds to the trash problem on the streets.
But, that being said, it seems to function and do OK – I don't drink a whole lot, maybe a case of beer a year, so it does get tiring seeing beer and wine in every grocery and convenience store you go into.
I often wonder why every store thinks it must be everything to everyone.
While I do respect your option, and you are correct in some aspects. I don't think anyone wants to see party shops open up all over town.
What people really don't understand is that no laws have been changed. There is nothing new here. You could get “to-go” beer from many restaurants and pizza shops for years. The only difference is that a restaurant that happens to be attached to a grocery story is now doing it. The media has done nothing to help this overblown situation by misleading people into thinking the laws have been changed.
