Loblaws for the win. They are still around, although only in Canada. I visited one in Markham, just outside of Toronto. It was huge and really high end with a cafe on a second floor balcony overlooking the produce section.

I remember SD having the first with a beer store. Something really different at the time. Also they had a great restaurant that was open 24 hours.

I remember the Super Duper at 26th and I79 – It was an incredibly novel idea – No shopping carts in the parking lot to ding cars –

They put your groceries into a numbered tote and gave you a tag – you drove up and they loaded your groceries into your car for you. Wow, making things easier for the customer. But then again I remember when people pumped your gas for you and checked your oil and windshield washer fluid.

It was awesome in inclement weather – not having to push a loaded shopping cart full of paper bags through the rain.

I seem to remember they were one of the first open 24 hours too. I remember going shopping with my parents after they got out of work at like midnight.
