Gannon Heads to the Elite Eight

xsmall_2009NCAAEliteEight.jpgStudents, boosters, alumni, and the community at-large is invited to Gannon University’s Hammermill Center Sunday at 4 p.m. to help send off the nationally-ranked Golden Knights before they make the 460-mile trip to Springfield, Mass. for the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.

Gannon’s team bus will leave the Hammermill Center, site of the Atlantic Regional hosted and won at Gannon, at approximately 4:30 p.m. Prior to the team’s departure, a short pep rally is planned so fans can wish them well.

Gannon earned a spot in the Division II Elite Eight by beating Pitt-Johnstown, Alderson-Broaddus, and Kutztown, respectively, at home in the Atlantic Regional. The 84-73 win over PSAC foe Kutztown, which clinched for the Knights the Atlantic Regional championship, improved Gannon’s record to 30-3.

In Springfield, the Golden Knights will play Central Missouri (29-4) at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 in the Elite Eight quarterfinals.

Fans are invited to take advantage of the “Go Knights!” bus trip package. The fan bus will leave at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday and return the morning after the team is no longer involved in competition. For more information on pricing, lodging and tickets, log on to www.gannonalumni.org.
