PNC Bank is asking customers to please not dress like criminals when visiting one of their branches. This includes removing hats and hoods, taking off your sunglasses, and not wearing pantyhose stretched over your face. PNC thanks you in advance. Why they have to take off their sunglasses? sunglasses aren't for criminals

So you are saying a PRIVATE company does not have the right to set rules concerning visitors on their PRIVATE property?

Would you be against, say, a 5 star restaurant prohibiting entry to someone wearing a stained t-shirt and ripped up denim jeans? Or is it only PRIVATE banks you think should not have the ability to set a dress code on their premises.

The restriction of the rights of a PRIVATE company would in fact be an example of a totalitarian government as portrayed in 1984. You really should rethink your position. It is at odds with the values you claim to espouse.

What does a novel about a totalitarian regime have to do with what a private company does on private property?

The whole concept of our rights and freedoms being chipped away slowly – We can't go with out a seatbelt, we have to wear helmets, we can't wear a hat in a bank. Many small bits of personal freedoms get chipped away everyday – you can't see that – You should read the book again.

What is next, we can't own a gun, we can't meet after dark, we can't buy that…you go ahead and keep sticking up for the big business.

What is our president doing meddling with large corporations? Hmmm. Perhaps you should type your comments as baa baa….

I think you're right on that, inked. The first time a disgruntled hat wearing customer shows up on TV that policy will vanish.

I don't disagree with you Dittman – I think George Orwell might have been right, I just think he was a few years off target that's all.

I can't wait to see the first person the arrest for not taking off his hat – The PR alone will make them rethink it.

Actually they can force you to remove your hat or Nixon mask, just as a club can say “No sneakers”.

The question isn't so much “Can they”, but “Will it make an difference?” And, to be honest, it could be worse: when I go to my favorite scrap yard, I have to look into a camera and clearly state my name to get paid. If it bothered me that much, I guess I could find a different yard, just as some people, I suppose, will find a different bank.

I am sorry PNC, I am not taking my hat off when I walk into your branches. I take my sunglasses off because it is discourteous to talk to people when they cannot see your eyes, but you cannot force me to remove my hat.

I am glad I do not bank with PNC. What is next - a metal detector when you walk through the door.

Perhaps they should just have one of those walk up windows like the late night convenience stores in bad areas do. Then the hat and glasses issue won't be an issue.
