Erie PA News, Sports and Events for Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Erica Erwin of the Erie Times-News writes about the possibily of the Erie Water Works taking over the operations of the Millcreek Water Authority. Doesn’t Millcreek buy water from the Water Works? And don’t residents of Millcreek pay much more for their water then residents in the city?

Peter at GlobalErie blogged about the Obama’s new dog and it’s roots to Erie. He links to a Washington Post story talking about the connection:

One day last August, a pretty Portie named Penny was led into the boudoir — also known as the grooming room — at Julie Parker’s kennel in Millcreek Township, outside Erie, Pa.

The Erie Marketplace in Summit Township is one of 52 properties that may go on the market. Learn more here.

50 employees have been let go at Riley Power. Another 8-10 may lose their jobs by the end of the week.

Hollywood producer Lloyd Segan, Allegheny class of 1980, will speak in the Gladys Mullenix Black Theatre in the Vukovich Center for Communication Arts on the campus of Allegheny College on Tuesday, April 14. His lecture, “Youth Marketing and the Evolution of the ABC Network,” will use his current television series, “Greek,” as an example of how the ABC network has shifted its focus in programming to attract young viewers. Segan’s films include, among others, “Bickford Shmeckler’s Cool Ideas,” “Bones,” “The Boondock Saints” and “The Bachelor.” In addition to “Greek,” his television projects include “Dead Zone,” “Wildfire,” “Crossworld” and “Hendrix.” Segan’s presentation is free and open to the public.

Darn, I would have liked to see Hollywood producer Lloyd Segan at Allegheny College. I loved his movie “The Boondock Saints”. But it's tonight.
Anyway, I hope everyone had a great Easter. Spring is here.

  2. inked says:

Is it just me or do other people not give a rat's A** about what kind of dog Obama got- or even care he owns a dog at all – Is this really news?

Really, why is this even being reported.
Can someone answer this? With everything that is going on, do we really need to know this or is it just a distraction?

  3. Matt says:

Perhaps it's because there's an attenuated link from the dog's origin to the community?

And yes, it is you. If everything that were going on was reported, would you even read it as you imply? Did the addition of that small story actually distract you from reading about every event or do you, in actuality, subscribe to the Palin method (… read most of them,” “all of 'em,” and “any of 'em.”)

Your thin veiled and unfounded dislike of the president reveals perhaps more than you intended.

  4. inked says:

I openly dislike the president – I voted and campaigned against him.
There is nothing veiled about it. But my contention is that what type of dog any president has really is not news. It is just trivial.

  5. Matt says:

And as I pointed out, there is a link to the dog's origins and our community. This is not NYC or LA-there is not a comparable abundance of local news so an article as such is run. All that energy expended on a trivial (in your words) concern; if so trivial, why did you even bother to comment other than to use it as an expression of your dislike of Obama (which of course, you can freely have but try and have substance behind your dislike of the man-the fact he got his kids a dog shows you're grasping at straws).

  6. inked says:

    whatever

  7. Matt says:

Such a “Palin-esque” response. Your favorite MILF would be so proud of your erudition. Can I expect a “bite me” or “screw you” in the future?

  8. inked says:

My point is that with everything that is going on in the country right now – that dog is not news –

my neighbor got a dog last year and it didn't make even the local news. Why? because it is not news –

Should we really be concerned with what kind of dog he got or should we be concerned about what he is doing to help us – or what he is doing to help the country –

that is my point – the dog is trivial – not news. It was a waste of time and a distraction from more important matters –

It has nothing to do with who he is – it does not matter what president it is – the dog thing is not valid news –

By the way, referring to Palin as a MILF is a bit disrespectful. I am sure you wouldn't want someone calling your wife or mother that, hmm?

And no, no bite me, but I am done arguing about this with you – You are obviously a Obama supporter so you won't get my point -

enjoy your doggie updates – by the way the dog whisperer thinks it is the wrong dog for the obamas

  9. Matt says:

It is trivial so why did you even bother commenting on it unless it was a poorly conceived slight on Obama? If it was a waste of time, what do you call your response to it? Just admit it-you used the story about the dog to vent about there being *gasp* a black man as president!

And my gf is a MILF-she's hellaciously sexy and many times more intelligent than the person you voted for. Wow-you actually voted someone overwhelmingly considered a blithering idiot! Betcha double dipped for the King George also-do you accept responsibility for putting the nation's worst president in power?

  10. inked says:

No you have have your wish –

    Bite Me –

I enjoyed this blog, but I think I will stop reading for a while. I am once again I do not live in Erie anymore.

  11. Matt says:

I'm guessing that proofreading is not something you're keen about.

  12. inked says:

I guess you have never made a mistake – You must be a perfect A$$hole.

  13. Ed Mahonovich says:

Matt, do you have any photos of your gf that you can share?

  14. stangetz says:

“Having solved all other problems, the nation is overwhelmingly grateful the Erie area was able to provide the President with a new puppy to relax and play with. Our long national nightmare is over”

  15. Matt says:

Of course I've made mistakes-and I also take five seconds to proofread what I write. The two are not mutually exclusive.

  16. DannyZ says:

It's just you, and other right wingers.

At work we commonly discuss current events an politics. Most of us have very complex views and do not fit neatly within political labels. I'd provide examples on this, but I'd be getting too far off topic.

So anyway, we all participate in lively discussion of current issues. When the topic of the lineage of Obama's dog came up, every single person found it mildly interesting–except for the far right winger that thinks President Obama can do nothing right, even in the face of hard evidence.
