US Senator Arlen Specter (R, PA) announced that he is switching parties to the Democratic side. He is up for re-election in 2010.
The Erie Times-News has announced that salaried employees will have their wages reduced 4.5% effective immediately. The company cites a drop in advertising revenue and they will negotiate with other employee groups to negotiate unpaid five-day layoffs for some employees.
Joel Atkin, accused of shooting Jayson Sack, claims Sack attacked him and he was acting in self defense. Sack died at Hamot after being shot in the stomach.

A group of students from the Mercyhurst College Walker School of Business will deliver a strategic plan to the John Kanzius Research Foundation Board on Tuesday, April 28, at a dinner meeting in Mercy Heritage Room, Sullivan Hall, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Some 30 teams, comprised of more than 150 Gannon University faculty, staff, and students, will participate in the University’s annual Relay for Life. Student organizers have set a goal of raising $25,000 for the American Cancer Society through the event. Each participant is raising a minimum of $25 as an entrance fee, and has been encouraged to raise $50 or more as an “incentive donation.” The relay will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, May 1 at the field outside the University’s Carneval Athletic Pavilion, 130 West 4th St. It will continue until 1 a.m. Saturday, May 2.

Mike Mischler has been named the head coach of the Prep Ramblers. Mischler returns to the school that he coached for seven years.
Paul Maholm left it up to the bullpen in the sixth, and with the tying runner on base, Jesse Chavez gave up a two-run shot to Rickie Weeks, as the Bucs fell to the Crew on Tuesday, 6-5.
Asdrubal Cabrera knocked in the winning run in the ninth inning as the Tribe erased an early deficit against the Red Sox en route to a 9-8 victory on Tuesday night.
Edinboro University’s Jarrod King (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville), a member of the wrestling team, has been named to the 2008-09 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Winter Top 10. King is the third Fighting Scot to earn PSAC Top 10 accolades this year. Trevor Harris (football) and Ashley Jones (women’s soccer) were named to the PSAC Fall Top 10.
