Police have identified the man who died in Tuesday’s crash on I-90. He is Samuel A. Thomas from Warren. Our thoughts go out to his family.

Dr. Paul Heberle has pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy and other drug charges. He was acquitted of charges in 2006 of illegally prescribing pain medication. He traded prescriptions for crack.

Dear Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi: We don’t like you either. In a story in the Christian Science Monitor this week dealing the Senator Arlen Specter, Cochran, who had campaigned with Spector, said this about our fair city:

I asked him at the caucus lunch: Does this mean I don’t have to go to Erie [Pa.] anymore?

Whatevs.

Speaking of Specter, one name that’s been bandied about as someone who could run against him in 2010 is Tom Ridge. Quick poll:

Not long after receiving a consultant’s report supporting a community college, Erie County Council has commissioned a study to determine how much it will cost, especially how much the county would be on the hook for to get it going and keep it going.

Second Foundation, a full-service business, accounting and technology consulting firm with headquarters in Kitchener, Ont., has announced the acquisition of Software Technology Concepts, based in Erie.

Governor Edward G. Rendell has announced Jeffrey J. Szumigale or Erie has been re-appointed to the Council of Trustees at Clarion University.

The Krispy Kreme on Peach Street will team with the Cookie Mug to hold a fundraiser this Sunday to benefit the Shriners Hospital of Erie. The event will run from 10 am to 1 p.m. and there will be face painting, balloons, gift basket giveaways and much more. Krispy Kreme Erie + Twitter = win.

The Erie Art Museum is having a free all-day public celebration to officially kick off the construction of the Erie Art Museum’s $9 million expansion and renovation on May 8, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in the Erie Art Museum Annex parking lot at 20 East 5th Street. Additional public events include free admission to the Erie Art Museum from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. & again from 7-9 p.m. for the Museum’s Last Bash in the Annex. Erie band the Heliotropes will entertain, visitors will make their mark on construction fencing and sheetrock, and visitors will get the first glimpse at the bright ideas of area inventors in the InnovationErie design competition.

Sports

The SeaWolves fell behind early and could never rebound as they lost to the Bowie Baysox, 6-1, at Jerry Uht Park on Wednesday.

Ian Snell gave his team a chance to win on Wednesday, as the lone run he gave up was to his counterpart, Yovani Gallardo, but the offense was silent in a 1-0 loss to the Crew.

Fausto Carmona tossed 6 2/3 sharp innings before the bullpen allowed the Red Sox to force extras, then take the lead in the 10th, and the Indians fell, 6-5, on Wednesday.

    Cochran is famous for refusing to support the SCHIP insurance program for children unless fetuses were included.
