Erie PA News, Sports and Events for Thursday, May 7, 2009

We’ve had a job board for a few years now, and many of the jobs posted there have been ones we’ve found and re-posted. Since we can’t be everywhere and see everything (as hard as we try to), we need your help. If you have a job opening, full or part time, or a volunteer opportunity you want to tell the people of Erie about, please post it on our job board. Use code EB4JOBS and your job postings will be free, forever.

Roxanne Robinson, 43, has been charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanor counts, after a 1-year-old child she had custody of ingested crack cocaine. After treatment at Hamot, the child was moved to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Things got slashy outside Patti’s Pizza on W. 38th last night. Danielle Esser, 25, cut her boyfriend with a knife and was taken into custody.

Erie City Council has set a deadline of July 1 to have an emissions monitoring law. An obvious poke at the tires-to-energy plant, its not clear if the council can even pass such a law. Erica Irwin at the Erie Times-News has more.

Sports

The SeaWolves and Harrisburg Senators were cut short by rain on Wednesday night at Metro Bank Park with Harrisburg taking down the ‘Wolves, 2-0 in six innings.

Zach Duke struggled, and the Pirates could not capitalize on scoring opportunities in Wednesday’s 4-2 loss to the Cardinals. Nyjer Morgan was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored.

Supporting a fine start by Carl Pavano, Victor Martinez was just one of the Tribe to come up big in a 9-2 victory over the Red Sox on Wednesday night in Boston, driving in four runs.
