Workers at Penn-Union in Edinboro have approved a new contract. They had been on strike since April 2.

The PA Supreme Court will hear an appeal by the Lake Erie Region Conservancy. They are fighting the sale of the Erie Golf Course to Millcreek Township. The course was sold to the City of Erie in 1926 for $2 that forced the city to keep the land as a golf course and the Conservancy believes the sale to Millcreek violates that deed. We’re not sure the issue here, Millcreek is going to keep the course open. It’d be different if they were going to build McMansions on the course.

John E. Connelly has died. A Pittsburgh native, he founded the Gateway Clipper after buying a fishing boat from Erie.

The Road, which filmed at Conneaut Lake Park and Presque Isle, finally has a trailer out. Not sure if would spot what was filmed here, but it looks intense.

Jerome Sherman of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wrote an in-depth piece on race relations on Erie and the James Cousins YouTube video.

In honor of the 60th anniversary of Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, Pioneer alumnus Thomas B. Hagen gave the commencement address at the college’s spring 2009 ceremony on Saturday, May 16. Penn State Behrend’s first alumni, known as the Pioneers, are those students from the classes of 1948 to 1962.

Sports

For the second straight day, the SeaWolves offense could not come through as they dropped their fourth in five games to the Bowie Baysox, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at Prince George’s Stadium.

David Huff’s debut marked a wild Sunday. Ben Francisco homered twice, but the Rays’ five-run fourth was the difference as the Tribe lost, 7-5. The Rays played minus a DH

Sunday featured a seventh for the ages, as the Pittsburgh Pirates notched 10 runs — nine before recording an out — in the frame en route to an easy 11-4 victory over the Rockies and a series win.

No. 7 West Chester scored four runs in the second, third and eighth innings as the Golden Rams defeated No. 28 Mercyhurst College, 14-0, to win the NCAA II Atlantic Region Championship. West Chester (46-10) advances to the NCAA II World Series while Mercyhurst (38-17) ends its season.

Edinboro University men’s basketball coach Greg Walcavich has announced the signing of Anthony Lytle of Altoona High School to a national letter of intent. Lytle joins Chris Klimchock of Greensburg Salem High School as Fighting Scot recruits. Klimchock, a point guard, was an early signee.

The Allegheny women’s golf team battled from a 15th place after day one to post their highest national finish with seventh out of 21 teams at the Division III Championships in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Events

Gannon University’s Erie Chamber Orchestra will hold its next concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 5 at St. Patrick Church, 130 East 4th St. The concert will be a tribute to Leroy Anderson and is free and open to the public.     I like it but I don't expect DiVecchio or Weindorf to respond. I do expect the newspaper to cover for them by issuing a sneering reaction.
