The City of Erie’s curfew hours are now in effect. Starting last Friday night, if you are under the age of 18 you cannot be out and about after midnight. The curfew runs from midnight until 6 a.m.

Arden Earll of Erie participated in D-Day remembrance ceremonies in Normandy, France. A photo of Mr. Earll was included in a story in Stars and Stripes.

Ford Turner of the Harrisburg Patriot-News had a story this weekend dealing with the idea to toll all of the state’s interstate highways, including I-79. He says:

One potential vein of cash drops down the state’s western flank, from Erie to the West Virginia border. Another squiggles east-west across the northern heartland for 311 miles. Another runs from Harrisburg to the Maryland border for 51 miles.

Sure, they can toll 79, but where will the money come from to fix up Route 19 once everyone starts taking that instead of 79?

Millcreek police K-9 Max passed away last week. He served for several years and was able to be brought to the force by funds donated by the community.

Hurricane on the Bayou, a film chronicling Hurricane Katrina and it’s impact in Louisiana, has begun screening at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center.

Mercyhurst College intelligence studies faculty Kristan Wheaton, J.D., will conduct a one-hour webinar on “Evaluating Intelligence” for the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals on June 10 from noon to 1 p.m. Wheaton will examine why evaluating intelligence is a difficult task, suggest a new model for thinking about the process and reveal the result of a recent case study involving intelligence evaluation.

Sports

The Erie SeaWolves lost both games of a doubleheader at Prince George’s Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced its 2008-09 Division I All-Academic Team. Edinboro University’s Jarrod King (Connellsville, PA/ Connellsville) and Torsten Gillespie (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) were two of 51 wrestlers honored for the excellence in the classroom and on the mat.

Gannon’s Colleen Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) and Molly Meagher (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) have been selected to participate in the 2009 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)/Under-Armour North-South Senior All-Star Game.

Events

Singers ages 7 to 18 are invited to attend the first Young People’s Chorus of Erie summer choir camp this August. The camp will be held on the campus of Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, from August 3-7. Elementary-school singers ages 7 to 10 will be day campers and participate in choir activities from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day; singers ages 10 and older will live in a Penn State Behrend residence hall for the week.
