CATV Announces Erie Rocks Video Contest

Community Access Television (CATV) is sponsoring a video contest, Erie Rocks, which is seeking videos that present a positive image of Erie.

CATV is a public access television channel, Channel 2 on Time Warner Cable in the City of Erie, Pennsylvania. As a nonprofit corporation, they are designated by the City of Erie to receive the funds and manage the channel provided by Time Warner Cable in its franchise agreement with the City.

You can get a full list of rules as well as an entry form at their website.

Erie would really “ROCK” if it didn't have Time Warner.
This “franchise agreement” is nothing more than a government protected monopoly.
The Time Warner Cable franchise agreement should be dropped and open competition allowed. Let the market decide not corrupt politicians.

Moski, even if Erie opened the franchise, it is not a populated or profitable enough area to overbuild a completely separate cable plant. Building a HFC plant from scratch costs an insane amount of money.

There are very few areas that have been overbuilt by a second cable company. The largest overbuilder in the US, RCN, had to file for bankruptcy a few years ago.
