Erie PA News, Sports and Events for Monday, June 22, 2009

We were in Cleveland seeing my Dad for father’s day, and while the weather was beautiful, we got reports that it pretty much didn’t stop raining on Saturday. My square foot garden = stunned. My corn is blowing up.

Sad news, Erie was not named an All-American City this past Friday. Your winners this year include Fort Wayne, Wichita, Phoenix, Inglewood CA, Somerville Massachusetts, Albany, Kinston North Carolina, Statesville North Carolina and Richmond Indiana. There has been some blog and Twitter chatter last week about the 13 person delegation and who covered the costs for so many people to go to the presentation.

University Police at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, are asking for the public’s help to investigate a recent incident on campus. A bullet entered Lilley Library through a small second floor window, located on the eastern side of the library closest to Jordan Road. Police believe that the incident occurred between the late night hours of Wednesday, June 17, and the early morning hours of Thursday, June 18. No one was injured. A passerby saw the broken window at about 3 p.m. on June 18, and alerted college officials, thus beginning the investigation. Lilley Library was not occupied during the time the incident is believed to have occurred. During the summer, the library is open weekdays (Monday through Thursday) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The library is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. The ground and first floors are open today; the second floor of the library remains closed.

The US Justice Department has said they will not investigate the YouTube video featuring James Cousins. The NAACP had asked the department to investigate the video.

Summer classes start today in Erie and Millcreek. We bet students taking classes this summer won’t find the “school in summertime” joke as funny as others do.

Ed Palattella in the Erie Times-News reported yesterday that former judge Michael Joyce will keep his pension. He was convicted of fraud last November, but despite that he’ll still receive over $81,000 in payments a year in addition to fully paid health care coverage for himself and his wife. Mr. Palattella brings constant reporting thunder.

Do you think Joyce should keep his pension? On the other hand, he did earn that pension during his time on the bench, which was before his conviction.

We’re thinking of making a new section in these daily blog posts that says “There was another fire set at Granada.”

Total Crap! – criminals do not get to keep benefits – he will be in jail and will be getting 3 hots and a cot all on the taxpayers tab – His pension should go back to the state for repayment of his living expenses and medical care – and for the cost of the investigation and trial as well as restitution.

If it was good enough to dish out – Maximum Mike, it should be good enough to eat it yourself.
