images.jpgVice President Joe Biden will be in the Erie area Wednesday to make an announcement about rural broadband coverage that is part of the stimulus package. Joining him will be new FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski. The announcement will be made at 12 p.m. at Seneca High School. You can pick up tickets starting today at 4 p.m at Seneca High School. Rep. Seven unions have reached a contract agreement with FirstEnergy, parent company of Penelec. Workers at the company had been on strike since May 21.

The woman who stole a murdered Lake City, Fl. man’s truck was arrested in Erie and will be sent back to Florida to face charges.

Judge Anthony Vardaro is the new President Judge in Crawford County. Congratulations to Judge Vardaro.

There has been a moderate shortage of type A blood for about a week and the shortage turned critical with a tremendous amount of type A being used in the past 24 hours. All other blood types are low as well. Everyone who can is encouraged to donate before the holiday weekend. The first 25 donors who come to the blood bank at 26th & Peach Tuesday get a coupon for a free Blizzard donated by Dairy queen on Peach St, and Donors all week are entered to win a Play Station 3 generously donated by Game Crazy on East 38th street. The Community Blood Bank is located at 26th and Peach and is open Tuesday 9am to 7:30pm and Wednesday and Thursday 9am to 6pm. The blood bank is closed Friday and Saturday for the Holiday. No appointment is needed to save a life.

With grant funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Allegheny College environmental science professor Jennifer DeHart and a group of environmental studies students have begun a two-part project to help the City of Meadville reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Mercyhurst College President Dr. Thomas J. Gamble and Provost Dr. James Adovasio, who also directs the Mercyhurst Archaeological Institute, will join Southern Methodist University officials Tuesday, June 30, at a formal signing ceremony marking the launch of a combined archaeology field school at the SMU-in-Taos campus.

The Seawolves dropped their 7th straight game at Harrisburg yesterday afternoon, falling 6-5. Erie hosts Trenton tonight at 7:05 p.m.

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League own the 30th and 90th picks in the 2009 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft being held today beginning at 9 a.m. The 30th pick is scheduled to take place at 2:20 p.m.

image002.jpgThe National Basketball Association and the NBA Development League, the official minor league of the NBA, today announced the affiliation system for the 2009-10 season. The Erie Bayhawks will partner with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors. Last season, the Raptors called up Bayhawk Quincy Douby.

Events

Be a tourist on the lake with Pennsylvania Sea Grant’s Science on the Water series. Beginning this Thursday, June 18, Sea Grant will host a monthly series of educational, science-based tours on Lake Erie. The series targets the general public and is suitable for a non-technical audience. Each tour will be held on the Presque Isle Aqua Bus water taxi, departing from Waterworks at Presque Isle State Park. Boarding will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. All tours will end at 8 p.m.
