On Friday, July 10, faced with the continuing state budget impasse and Gov. Ed Rendell’s June 26 proposal to cut Penn State’s appropriation by nearly $61 million, the Penn State University’s Board of Trustees and administration made the unprecedented decision to approve two different tuition schedules. The first tuition scenario—the earlier planned level, prior the governor’s June 26 proposal—results in the following tuition changes for Penn State Behrend:
– Lower-division Commonwealth Campus students at Penn State Behrend, defined as those who have completed less than 59.1 credits, who are Pennsylvania residents (in-state) will see a 3.9 percent tuition increase, which translates to $226 per semester.
The second scenario—impacted by severe funding cuts proposed by Gov. Rendell—would result in the following tuition changes for Penn State Behrend.
– Lower-division Commonwealth Campus students at Penn State Behrend, defined as those who have completed less than 59.1 credits, who are Pennsylvania residents (in-state) will see a 4.9 percent tuition increase, which translates to $284 per semester.

From literature to the Big Screen, the fascination with the planet Mars has taken many forms. In the geology department at Mercyhurst College, that attraction currently surrounds three of the planet’s oldest and most explosive volcanoes known as highland paterae. These distinctive landforms will be studied extensively by a team of faculty and student researchers this summer, thanks to a $137,000 NASA grant awarded to Dr. Nicholas Lang, first-year assistant professor of geology at Mercyhurst.
