Union workers at the General Electric plant in Schenectady, New York, are considering whether to take wage and benefit cuts enticing GE to build a new battery plant there. The battery plant would be a division of GE Transportation here in Erie. How about building the plant at the existing spacious GE grounds in Lawrence Park? The Schenectady Daily Gazette has more.
Pennsylvania is still without a budget. Governor Rendell has indicated he would like the Democrat controlled house to pass the Republican Senates version of the budget from a couple of weeks ago. Things could be worse. Pennsylvania could have California’s budget crisis.
Edward L. Armes of Erie gets the class act award for skipping out and not paying for his meal at a restaurant in Chautauqua County. Some customer with a sense of responsibility followed Armes after he left the restaurant while calling in the report to the local sheriff’s office. During the arrest, law enforcement found drugs on him.
Jacksonville High School in North Carolina is losing its wrestling coach, Brad Skelton, after two years in the position. Skelton is returning to the Erie area to be closer to family and to taking a teaching and coaching job (school unknown).
The Toronto Globe and Mail has an article on Canadian public servant Jerry Yanover. Yanover was born in Erie but grew up in Ontario, Canada and serving a distinguished political career in the Canadian Parliament.
