Tired of the wet weather? Too bad. More to come with rain today, a reprieve tomorrow, and rain on Sunday. It’s monsoon season in Erie, PA.

Judge Sean McLaughlin of the U.S. District Court located here in Erie heard oral arguments Wednesday that pits oil and gas companies against the U.S. Forest Service and environmental groups. The oil and gas companies are challenging a settlement agreement that was entered into between the Forest Service and environmentalists that include the Sierra Club affecting reserves in the Allegheny National Forest. The agreement requires certain environmental testing to be performed first before additional drilling is allowed, if at all. Additional hearing will be held in late August as to whether the lawsuit should be dismissed at the request of the Forest Service.

And on the heals of the U.S. Forest Service lawsuit comes the Pennsylvania Oil & Gas Association (POGAM) trade show at the Bayfront Convention Center. The latest in equipment and services available to oil and gas exploration and production companies in the eastern United States will be on display during the trade show that runs September 1-3. It is rumored Judge Sean McLaughlin will be the honorary speaker… depending on how he rules in the federal court case. (That last sentence, of course, isn’t true.)

Starting next year the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board will begin setting up wine at kiosks in grocery stores all over the state with about 100 kiosks to be in place by July 2010.

The Erie SeaWolves just can’t catch a break against the Akron Aeros losing yet another game last night. The sweep is unfortunate as Erie was tied for second place in the Eastern League, Southern Division. The Reading Phillies have now taken that position in the division.

The Pennsylvania 500 at the Pocono Raceway will be held this Sunday at 1 p.m. and can be viewed on ESPN.
