According to the US Census Bureau, we in Erie have the highest poverty rate of any large city in the commonwealth. Nearly 20% of city residents were below the poverty live, earning less than $10,830.

John Sanchez is in some legal hot water for taking his daughter from Erie to Atlantic City. He was ordered to give up custody of the child before he disappeared with the child.

The Mercyhurst College women’s hockey team has been ranked second in the USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine Preseason Women’s Hockey Poll, released Tuesday by USA Hockey officials.
Edinboro climbed up five spots in the latest American Football Coaches Association Top 25 following Saturday’s 22-20 win at Gannon. That left the Fighting Scots with a 4-1 record. Edinboro returned to the poll a week earlier in the 24th spot.

The Ophelia Project will host a training conducted by BAM! Boys Advocacy and Mentoring on Monday, November 2, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Stairways Behavioral Health (2185 W. 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505). The cost to attend this training is $195, which includes light refreshments and a copy of the BAM! guidebook. Presenter Howard Hiton, MS, from BAM! will challenge attendees to see boys in new ways and provide them with the means to mentor young men to be more interpersonally engaged. Participants will learn about the research that underlies the BAM! approach to working with boys as well as practice the adventure based activities and strategic storytelling methods used in boys groups.
