Erie PA News, Sports and Events for Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Lots of great exposure for Erie yesterday.

First, Rowan Spracklen, who we’ve blogged about here before, has been chosen as the winner of Good Morning America’s Cute Kid contest. Rowan, adopted from Ethiopa, will be on the cover of Babytalk magazine and will win other prizes. Watch the announcement here.

Data Advantage, LLC announced today the Top 100 Hospital: Best in Value
Hospitals list from the 2009-2010 Hospital Value Index, the first and only national study on U.S. hospitals and the value of care they provide. St. Vincent was the only hospital included in the list.

It looks like plans to toll parts of I-80 aren’t quite dead yet. Even though the federal government has already vetoed the idea, state officials are going to ask again.

Someone broke into Porreco Nissan and stole a safe containing cash as well as inspection and emission stickers, among other items. If you see a car driving around town with an inspection due in April, May, June, July and August of 2009, let police know. See, that’s funny because the criminal could put all the stickers on at once. That one got away from me, sorry. I should have gone with a something = stunned joke. Any suggestions?

Sports

After jumping eleven spots the previous two weeks, Edinboro inched closer to the top ten in the latest American Football Coaches Association Top 25 following Saturday’s 38-24 win at Indiana(Pa.). The Fighting Scots moved up one spot from 13th to 12th this week, and are now 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC West.

Former Erie Otter Chris Campoli is now playing for Ottawa. His name came up often in the Senators 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh last night. Cool to see former players making it in the NHL.
