How awesome is to see gas prices jump up about 20 cents over the last few days.

Erie police arrested a man yesterday in the Intermodal Center. Apparently, one of the men were naked in a van with a flat tire and was showing drivers in the parking lot his um, equipment, much to the driver’s chagrin. The other man was generally being a nuisance. Five bucks says alcohol was involved.

A busted water main on E. 12th St. snarled traffic for a bit yesterday morning. It should now be opened up.

We’ve all had long waits in emergency rooms at some point in our lives. We recommend you not be like John Herrick and call in a bomb threat to Saint Vincent. He has pleaded guilty on a terroristic threats charge and could serve up to seven years behind bars.

The parents of Greg Jacobs, who died during a ski trip to Peek N Peak resort have settled their lawsuit with the resort. Jacobs died in 2007.

We’ve blogged before about Lisa Miceli. You’ll recall she has gone through all sorts of legal issues claiming Michael Jordan, yes the basketball player, was the father of her child. Once that got boring, she started suing everyone, claiming a Dubai prince was her boyfriend and the idea for a Paris Hilton BFF show. A judge has dismissed her suit against Viacom, which owns MTV. This types of things are the definition of frivolus lawsuits and clogging up our legal system. We don’t even feel good making a “few fries short of a happy meal” joke, it’s just sad.

In case you can’t wait a few hours to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the Best Buy in Erie is listed as one of the Best Buy stores that will open at midnight on November 10. If that sentence means something to you, we’re sure you will be excited by the news. Or something.

Dr. Jeffrey Pinto, professor of management at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has received the 2009 Research Achievement Award from the Project Management Institute. The award was presented during the PMI Global Congress held in Orlando, Fla., earlier this month.

The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Bradenton is continuing the tradition of honoring those students who have chosen to extend their medical careers by joining the U.S. Armed Forces. In front of family, friends, classmates, faculty, staff and military personnel, seven members from the medical school Class of 2013 received their commissions. AshleyRae Hardin, Lauren Acton and Nathan Watts will serve in the U.S. Army; Robert Rutter, Jill Martini and Benjamin Stork will serve in the U.S. Navy; and Breanna Gawrys will serve in the U.S. Air Force.

Sports

It was cool to hear former Erie Otters captain Brad Boyes’ name come up during last night’s St. Louis/Pittsburgh game. The Pens won 5-1.

The Mercyhurst women’s soccer team recorded its 10th win of the season, downing Clarion 1-0 Tuesday, Oct. 20 at Mercyhurst Soccer Field. Taylor Hilinski scored the Lakers’ lone goal, and Rachel Griepsma earned the shutout.
