District 9

District 9 Imagine that aliens are living among us on Earth. The government has confined them in a camp guarded with security. We feed them cat food, which they love, and they keep their distance. We only interfere when it’s absolutely necessary. Some of the aliens are a bit unruly and it’s a completely different world, but it’s still peaceful enough. They’ve brought to us a whole new world of science, technology, and fresh experiment ideas. This is our Earth, so we’re in charge, right?

In the action packed, science fiction movie, District 9, aliens do live with us on Earth in Johannesburg, South Africa.

It begins with a huge spaceship that landed just above the city. Scientists figure that the ship was disconnected from another ship and fell to Earth. Upon investigation, they found a group of aliens inside that were nearly starving to death.

While the residents of Johannesburg agree to let the aliens live in the city, they want the aliens to be kept under control. The government then creates District 9, a protective camp for the aliens, when some of them become more unruly and destructive. After that the extraterrestrials are given the derogatory name, “prawn.”

When Multination United (MNU) takes over the responsibility of District 9, they decide to relocate the aliens outside of Johannesburg to the new District 10.

However, when Wikus van de Merwe, an MNU employee, becomes in charge of the relocation project some of the creatures don’t take the evictions so well. Wikus and his crew even abort some alien eggs and confiscate some dangerous-looking weapons that might not be so safe for human contact. . .

Written and directed by Neill Blomkamp, this film proves that there are plenty more stories to be made out of extraterrestrials. With an exceptional, completely unexpected and edge-of-your-seat plot, District 9 is more than science fiction-action movie. Its irreplaceable heroes make it an unforgettable film.
