You know you’re thinking it…there’s the slightest chance that with all this warmer weather and sunshine, spring might just be on its way (knock on wood and anti-jinx it!). But the bay’s still frozen over, and its beautiful for a walk if you have the time. I took a stroll across it over the weekend and captured some great shots:
Disbarred Erie attorney J. Gregory Moore has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for embezzlement. He pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $200,000 from estate clients.
The Erie County Coroner is still investigating the death of 39-year-old Daniel Ellis, who was killed by a freight train. Ellis was walking on a set of tracks when he was struck from behind by an eastbound train. Investigators believe Ellis may not have heard the train coming because of noise from a nearby passing westbound train.
A federal judge has overturned a $5,000 verdict awarded to Dan Galena, who claimed Erie County Councilman Fiore Leone violated his free speech rights. Galena, who is now running for council himself, sued Councilman Fiore Leone for having a sheriff’s deputy escort him from a 2007 meeting when Galena continued speaking after a public comment period had ended. U.S. District Judge Sean McLaughlin overturned the August jury verdict on Friday, finding that Councilman Leone had acted properly.
Freshmen college students need to start adding a new item to their dorm room shopping lists: fire extinguisher. A fire broke out on the roof of Edinboro’s science building on Sunday night, possibly caused by a HVAC unit. The blaze was controlled within an hour and no injuries were reported. This comes shortly after last week’s fire at the Dobbin’s cafeteria at Penn State Behrend, reportedly caused by a faulty electrical wire in a cash register.
