Erie, PA News & Events for April 2, 2010

While we appreciate that you’re reading ErieBlogs, you need to step away from the computer and go outside.  Now.  Gorgeous!  Beautiful!  Perfect!  The forecast has tomorrow’s weather being just as great as today.  Go for a walk or a bike ride, do some gardening, wash your car or your windows.  Just make sure to get outside and enjoy it.

NEWS

According to Erie Renewable Energy’s Greg Rubino, his company is “looking to establish a presence in Crawford County.” It’s unkown whether ERE is looking to possibly located its tires-to-energy plant in Crawford County instead of Erie County or if it’s looking at Crawford County for something different or in addition to its proposed plant in Erie.

A couple of notes for those of you who live in the City of Erie:

As of April 1st, the odd even parking regulations are no longer in effect and there is one day per week when parking in prohibited between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Check the signage on the street where you park for the day of the week when no parking is permitted.

April is Large Item Garbage month.  Beginning April 4th and continuing through the end of the month, sanitation engineers will take, along with your regular garbage, one large item (you’ve been wondering what to do with that old waterbed, haven’t you?).  If you have more items than the number of days you can put out large items, have no fear!  Just put your items out early in the day.  The scavengers will come around and pick up your stuff (especially if it contains any metal) and then you can put out another item for garbage pick-up.  You can continue doing this all day, up until the garbage truck shows up.  The only no-nos are appliances (although the scavengers will usually take them), chemicals, paint, hazardous waste, and construction materials.

Once again, Erie Police answered a call for shots fired and found shell casings.  This time, it was the 700 block of East Sixth Street around 10:30 p.m.

A Millcreek man has been charged with disorderly conduct for displaying a sign in the window of his residence that included racial slurs and hate speech.  Maybe the Southern Poverty Law Center should add Andy Wasiulewski to their Hate Map.
