In Erie, there was KEEP. In Meadville, there’s CARE. According to the Meadville Tribune, the group Crawford Area Residents for the Environment was formed out of a concern for their environment and whether ERE’s proposed tire gasification plant will be detrimental to the residents of Crawford County and/or their water, wildlife, or land.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is holding a hearing to determine the status of the license renewal request of Ted Arneault. Arneault headed MTR Gaming when Presque Isle Downs was built. He left that company in 2008, however, he still owns 5.67% of the company. In order to retain that interest, Arneault must keep his license. As a result of Arneault’s background check, investigators have raised concerns regarding his character, integrity, and honesty. The five-day hearing has been closed to the public at Arneault’s request.

The Erie Redevelopment Authority was just awarded $197,000 by City Council ($60,000 of that has to be repaid) and now The Jefferson Educational Society is looking for $85,000 from the City for a bicentennial celebration of the War of 1812. In addition to $85,000 from the City of Erie, William Garvey, head of The Jefferson Educational Society, told City Council they would also be looking for money from Erie County, the City of Erie School District, Millcreek Township, federal grants, and other sources to get to a total of $1,300,000.

It’s Friday… that means the Poetry Scene is tonight. Every Friday night from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Chuck Joy hosts a poetry reading at The Erie Bookstore. You can go to read your poetry or just sit and enjoy the poetry of others. The Erie Bookstore is located in Lovell Place, 137 East 13th Street. Call 480-5671 for more information. This event is free and open to the public.

Last month, the Erie Seawolves were in last place in the Eastern League Western Division. Today? Not so much. After beating the Richmond Flying Squirrels (yes, really) Wednesday night, the Seawolves took first place. However, they lost to the Richmond last night, moving the Seawolves down to second place in the division. Can anyone read this paragraph and not picture Rocky & Bullwinkle?

Speaking of the Seawolves… there are home games all weekend. Tonight and Saturday night, games start at 6:35 p.m. Sunday’s game starts at 1:05 p.m.
