Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit.

The Shenango Valley Senior Center was the site of a PA-3 political forum between Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (D) and her republican opponent, Mike Kelly, of Butler, PA.   The Congresswoman concentrated on her accomplishments over the last 20 months and, as expected, her opponent purports he could do better.

Speaking of politics, did anyone see the just-a-smidge-over-a-minute-long video titled The Choice that was to be shown on the outside of a downtown building last night?  It was planned for the area of East 10th & French Street.  AFSCME Council 13 was going to be sponsoring it and it was going to run on a continuous loop for about an hour between 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.

If you missed it, your can, of course, watch it on YouTube… because unless it’s a Prince ditty, just about everything is on YouTube.

Still on the topics of politics, did you hear that the War in Iraq is finally – seven years 165 days later – over?

The Pennsylvania State Police placed 198 trucks out of service during a one-day enforcement effort that focused on commercial vehicles traveling on rural roads and non-interstate highways, Commissioner Frank E. Pawlowski announced today.

The Commonwealth Rural Roads and State Highways detail, or C.R.A.S.H., was conducted Wednesday, Aug. 25, by state police motor carrier enforcement teams across the state.

“When looking for commercial vehicle violations, monitoring only the interstate highways is not enough,” Pawlowski said. “We are active on rural roads across the state to ensure that commercial vehicles are operated safely.”

The enforcement teams inspected 1,263 commercial vehicles during the detail. In addition to placing vehicles out of service, troopers placed 34 drivers out of service and issued 643 traffic citations and 1,502 written warnings.

Pawlowski said the most common violations were brakes out of adjustment and inoperative exterior lights.
