Erie PA News, Sports and Events for Friday, April 15, 2011

Bad news for soap fans. ABC has cancelled their daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live. Now, I was a Days of Our Lives junkie back in the day (cue teenage fangirly swooning for Jack and Jennifer), but I know it must be hard when your favorite story gets the ax. Of course, this reminded me and Mike of a killer tune from back in our college days. Can’t beat some classic Urge Overkill.

Chris Pennsy over at VisitErie brought an interesting list to our attention yesterday: The 10 Safest Cities in America. Check it out, Erie made #2! These are cities that have a low risk of experiencing a natural disaster, as well as a low rate of violent crime. What do you think of our inclusion on this list?

The Erie Downtown Partnership and the City of Erie are working together to install new street signs downtown, from the 14th Street bridge to the waterfront and from the center line of Sassafras to the center line of Holland. The signs are blue with white lettering, and include block numbers along with the words “Erie Downtown”. There will be almost 180 new signs in all, and they will hopefully make it easier for visitors to navigate downtown.

Sports

Last night saw a disappointing end to a great season for the Erie BayHawks. The BayHawks lost game 3 of the opening round of the NBA Development League playoffs to the Reno Bighorns, 99-87. Reno moves on to the semi-final round and will face the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

The Bowie Baysox edged out the Erie Seawolves 2-1 in last night’s game. The Wolves are at Bowie through Sunday, facing them again tonight at 7:05 p.m.

It looks like VisitErie reads Erie Blogs, then reports to Erie Blogs what they read, so you can post it as “news”.

VisitErie told you 4/14/2011 and you told us on 4/15/2011 of Erie ranking high on a safe city list.

To the far right side of Erie Blogs is a list of Bloggers.
One is called “And Then I Found $5″, by a gal named *KC.
For the life of me, I do not understand why her writing is not loaded with comments.
Her topics are far and wide, her writing style readable, and she is not a slacker, but posts prolific materials.

She reported the VisitErie information you give us today….a week ago Thursday on 4/7/2011.

Kudos should be given to the one supplying the info first.
Especially when they are one of your own.
Give this blogger more scroll time.

Ps. She credits her source at the article base….
    a Professional gal apparently.

  2. Snowman says:

CNN reported on it on April 6.

  3. Danny Lucas says:

*KC quoted her Source: Wise Bread

    From Wise Bread:
10 Safest Cities in America from Natural Disasters
by Janey Osterlind on 28 March 2011

I tell you, this blogger knows her stuff. Listen up!

VisitErie above had info but no details above.

CNN doesn’t live here, albeit Kiran Chetry got off to a great career in Erie TV, and worked it all the way to CNN.
Managed to take Chris Knowles with her to be the daddy too.
    Wasn’t their theme “Hometown Touch”?

Read some backstories on “And Then I Found $5″.
    Good writer.
