Erie News and Events for Monday August 22, 2005

Don Marinucci has been named general manager of the Santa Fe Roadrunners of the North American Hockey League. Marinucci previously worked as the assistant general manager for the Erie Otters.
Tickets will go on sale Monday, August 22 at the Gannon University Carneval Athletic Pavilion on 3rd and Peach Streets for the Gannon-Mercyhurst football game scheduled for Saturday, August 27 at Gannon University Field. Tickets will be available Monday through Thursday between 8:30 am and 4 pm and Friday from 8:30 am to noon. NO PHONE ORDERS OR CREDIT CARDS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Tickets are scaled at $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. All tickets are general admission and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The game will sellout and I’m guessing by Wednesday.
Jackie Webb and Friends will perform Monday August 22 at 7 pm at Nate Levy Park as part of the City of Erie free concert series, Music Everywhere.
Ron Yarosz and the Musical Expansion, Glenn Pavone and the Cyclones, and Jakes Blues will wrap up the 2005 Port Erie Concert series 8 Great Tuesdays this Tuesday at 6:30 pm at the Liberty Park Pepsi Amphitheater. Yes, Jake Banta is back in town and performing again.
The 2005 Pennsylvania Premier Alliance League (PPA) Open Cup will be held at the host venue of Family First Sports Park August 27-28, 2005. The PPA Open Cup is for soccer players aged U9-U14 for the 2005-2006 playing season. Over 150 soccer teams are expected. Every hotel room within 50 miles of Erie is taken. Expect long lines at upper Peach Street restaurants.
The Fourth annual Erie Otters Champions for Education Dinner will be held at the Bel-Aire Hotel and Conference Center on Sunday, August 28. The Dinner, which begins with cocktails at 6 pm and Dinner at 6:30 pm, will feature special guest and former Pittsburgh Steelers great Louis Lipps. Tickets for the Otters Champions for Education Dinner are $40. Reservations can be made by calling the Otters Office at 814-455-7779.

The Norwich Navigators busted out for a seven-run inning for the second time in as many days, and Pat Misch pitched a complete game, as the Norwich Navigators completed the three-game sweep of the Erie SeaWolves with an 8-3 win at Dodd Stadium in Norwich. The SeaWolves host the Akron Aeros tonight in a buck night game. Virgil Vasquez gets the start for Erie.
