Erie PA News and Events for Friday August 26, 2005
Erie International Airport, Tom Ridge Field held an emergency drill yesterday. Might have been nice if they would have announced this before they did it. It was only dumb luck nobody got killed on Powell Ave or 12th Street trying to see what was going on. The drill went well except they found that the area police agencies use different frequencies and couldn’t communicate with each other That’s a nationwide problem that needs to be addressed.

I passed that emergency drill around noon and it certainly looked real (the damaged plane I thought I saw must have been an optical illusion). What gave me pause was (1) there was no traffic detour away from the airport and (2) there looked to be a refreshment trailer set up near the site.
BTW: The SWAT team had lunch at Hoss's. I also thought it was quite a coincidence that they all managed to dress in the same t-shirts & cammo pants if they had been summoned to a real emergency.
