The World War II Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial is the only cemetery in the Netherlands at Margraten.
Thousands of residents in the Netherlands have adopted graves of 8,301 fallen Americans at the WWII military cemetery in Margraten. Bert Caris adopted the grave of a soldier from Erie County, First Lieutenant Kenneth R Robinson of Lake City. Caris has set up a web site about the cemetary called Fallen But Not Forgotten.

A helicopter at the Erie Airshow was giving rides. I saw it fly over 50 times. I looked up 50 times. Hey, can you not look to the sky when you hear a helicopter? The airshow contines today from 10 am - 4 pm. Tickets are $12.

The 2005 Erie Marathon will be held September 11. There will also be a 4-Person Marathon Relay, a Half Marathon and a 5K.

What a great story on lst Lt. Kenneth Robinson. I grew up in Girard in the 50's and can relate to him but never heard this tale. As kids at Battles school during WWII the teachers would march us to a memorial board at Wells Park in the center of town. The board was enclosed in glass and listed the local servicemen in white with the deceased in gold letttering. Then the teacher would tell us about those that died. There were maybe 7 of them and a new memorial is now on view at the American Legion Post 494. Many families were heartbroken the rest of their lives. The Mission Pond was popular with the Girard kids and was a very cold place to swim. My ancestors, the Ephriam Martin family who co-founded present day Lake City, lived in the 1800's across from the pond. The Denman Theatre had increased to 14 cents by my boyhood and Hull's Cigar Store was the stopping point after the show. I knew Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sutch and this story is a fine tribute to Harold's friend. Bob Martin

It is just great to see how the story of Lt. Kenneth R. Robinson relates to the memories of others. Sixty years have passed since Kenneth Robinson died far frome his homeland, but it is good to know that his story is still "alive".
