The Pennsylvania Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement will begin using underage volunteers to make sure bars, restaurants and liquor stores don’t sell alcohol to them.
Diane Swaffar, a consultant for the new pharmacy program at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and the former founding dean and professor of pharmacology for the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) in Erie, is a finalist for the position of Dean for the East Tennessee State University College of Pharmacy. The ETSU College of Pharmacy is expected to open its doors in the fall of 2006 with a class of 65 students.
The Arizona Capitol Times has promoted Lori Wilson to the position of advertising manager. Ms Wilson, a native of Erie, PA, has 17 years of sales experience. She worked for the Pennysaver in San Diego, and in 1995 also helped to launch a community weekly, The Prospector.
Keith Hallal has been promoted from General Manager to Vice President of the Norwich Navigators. Hallal began his professional baseball career with the Erie SeaWolves in 1995 as the Director of Sales and Promotions. Hallal was named General Manager of the team in 1998 and oversaw the franchise’s transformation from the short-season New York-Penn League to the Eastern League in 1999.
The 2005 Albion Area Fair begins Tuesday September 13 and runs through Saturday, September 17, 2005. Admission is $5. For $7 you can buy a button and get in all 5 days. Parking is free.
The Guelcher Film Series returns for the season on Wednesday, September 14 with Schultze Gets the Blues. The film will be shown at 2 and 8 pm at the Mercyhurst College Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center.
Behrend alumnus Brian Swahn will open this year’s School of Engineering and Engineering Technology Speaker Series at noon on Thursday, September 15 with a presentation titled “Technology Trends and Design Challenges for 45nm and Beyond.” His talk, which takes place in the Reed Student Union Building, Room 114, will address future challenges in integrated circuit development.
Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro Cortés will speak at Allegheny College at 12:15 pm on Friday, Sept 16 in Quigley Auditorium. Cortes, the first confirmed Latino Cabinet member in Pennsylvania history, will share his background as it relates to his career in politics, address current immigration problems and policies, and describe the role of Latino voters in the years ahead.
The Gannon University Schuster Program for the Arts presents the Erie Chamber Orchestra with special guests soloists Lisa Layman and Brent Weber at St Patrick’s Church on Friday Sept 16 at 7:30 pm. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

On Saturday, Sept. 17th,2005 , the McDowell Marching Band Aides will be hosting the 31st annual McDowell Marching Band Invitational. This year it will feature 20 high school marching bands from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York - making it one of the largest band competitions in the area. Tickets are $4 for students and seniors, and $6 for adults. Gates open at 3pm. In addition there will be a basket raffle, bake sale, and a full menu concession stand. Mercyhurst lacrosse announced today the hiring of Rob Cross as the assistant men’s lacrosse coach. Cross comes to Mercyhurst after graduating last May from the University of Maryland - Baltimore County.
The Mercyhurst women’s volleyball team opens Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play Tuesday night when it welcomes Gannon to the Athletic Center for a 7 pm match.
Florida State League Player of the Year Jordan Tata (13-2, 2.79 ERA, 134 K’s in 155 innings) will be pitching for the Erie SeaWolves next seson.

Why couldn't the PLCB ask for underage volunteers when I was underage? I would have gladly offered myself for the cause...
