For the Marine attorneys of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, 2nd Force Service Support Group (Forward), their office is the inside of a tattered, Iraqi structure lined with sandbags and surrounded by barbed wire. The Marine attorneys of Camp Taqaddum are there to provide legal assistance to the command as well as to the individual Marine and Sailor. Services the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate provides are landlord tenant assistance, immigration, domestic law, powers of attorney, consumer issues and wills, according to Captain Brendan M Wolf, the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate of 2nd FSSG (Fwd) and an Erie, PA native. The Salvation Army released plans for the $48 million proposed Ray Kroc Center in Erie. It will include a pool, 2 ice rinks and a community center. The location will be next to the Family First Sports Park, 6 miles from the nearest low income youths it is being built to serve.
Approximately 50 candidates have applied to date to become the new president of Mercyhurst College. During the first two weeks of October the Committee expects to introduce at least three candidates to the Mercyhurst community for extensive interviews and meetings with all the constituencies. The state announced recycling performance grants to Pennsylvania communities for their recycling efforts in 2003. Erie County grants: City of Erie City $212,225; Erie County $9,863; Millcreek Township $220,385; North East Borough $7,678; and North East Township $2,639. Venango County: Oil City $5,890 and Sugarcreek $2,677.
The Imani Winds will open the sixteenth season of the Logan Music Series at Penn State Behrend today, September 20. The quintet’s noon performance in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Student Union Building is free and open to the public. Erie blogger Melissa will be handing out programs at the door.

Today through Thursday is the
March of Dimes Northwest PA Jail and Bail. Local business and community leaders will be “arrested” and taken by paddy wagon to the mock jail site, located under the famous clock at the Boston Store. Once imprisoned, the jailbirds will have one hour to raise their bail money by using cell phones to call business associates, family, and friends and ask for pledges. All bail money raised goes toward the March of Dimes.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will host its 6th annual Light the Night Walk tonight at Mercyhurst College-North East, in North East, PA. The Light the Night Walk is a celebration of lives touched by blood cancers and a remembrance of lives lost. Registration and pre walk celebration is at 5:30 pm with the walk starting at 7:30 pm. 2005 Great Lakes Film Festival will be September 22-25 at the Roadhouse Theatre For Contemporary Art, 145 West 11th St, Erie PA. Join the GLFA at 9 pm on Wednesday September 21, 2005, as they will host their
Film Fest Kick Off Party at the
Docksider Tavern located at 1015 State Street. This event will feature national artist Lake Trout.
The 24th Annual Wine Country Harvest Festival in North East, PA will be held September 23, 24 and 25, 2005. The festival features two venues, Gibson Park in the heart of downtown North East and Gravel Pit Park just 1 1/2 miles west of downtown. My editor once got locked up in the Jail-or-Bail. I made 0 attempt to get her out. It was a pleasant day.
