The Housing Authority of the City of Erie (HACE) yesterday held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Authority’s Parade Street Mixed-Use Development, 1401 Parade Street. The Housing Authority’s $1.9 million Parade Street Mixed-Use Development will contain commercial space and residential live/work condominium units.
In November, senior citizens in northwestern Pennsylvania and around the country will have the opportunity to enroll in the Medicare Prescription Drug Plans. Known as Medicare Part D, these plans provide added prescription drug coverage beginning in January 2006. On Sunday evening October 2, the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School (LECOM) of Pharmacy is teaming up with the Northwestern Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists by sponsoring a seminar to train local pharmacists to handle the onslaught of questions from their patients. The seminar is open to pharmacists, technicians, and students of pharmacy with an interest in learning about the current issues with Medicare Part D and Medication Therapy Management Services for Pharmacists. The free seminar and workshop will be held Sunday October 2 from 6:30-8 pm.

Erie based
Spectrum Control (Nasdaq: SPEC), a designer and manufacturer of electronic control products and systems, reported results for the third quarter. Cha-ching. For the third quarter of fiscal 2005, the Company reported net income of $1,558,000 or 12 cents per share on sales of $25,901,000 compared to net income of $997,000 or eight cents per share on sales of $20,180,000 for the same period last year.
Millcreek Community Hospital has purchased the Hallman Superior Toyota lot for future expansion. The car dealership will continue operating at the site for the time being.
A college fair will be held at the Mercyhurst College Recreation Center today from 7 to 8:30 pm. Over 75 college representatives from Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and other states will be on hand to answer questions from prospective students and their parents. Admission is free.
The Chautauqua Institution Fall Festival will be held September 30 through October 2. Join a celebration of culture, art, and the Lake Erie Coastal Region along with the second Quilting Around Chautauqua Festival. Over 500 quilts, speakers, raffles, contests, classes, fashion show, vendors, and demonstrations, artisans’ and craftspersons exhibits, farmer’s market exhibits and produce, children’s activities, clowns, animals, games, hayrides, Chautauqua County Corvette Club and more.

The Erie Otters 2005-2006 Home Opener is tonight at 7:30 pm at the Tullio Arena. Tickets are available at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations, the Erie Civic Center Box Office,
online or charge by phone 814-452-4857. Pre-game selebrations begin at 7 pm. Tickets are $13 for Platinum level seating, $11 for Gold level seating and $9 for Children (12 and under) for any seating area. The Otters 10th Home Opener takes place nine years to the day of the first ever Otters home game played September 29, 1996 against the Detroit Whalers. The Whalers have since transferred to Plymouth and will provide the opposition Thursday night at the Tullio Arena. The Otters head in to their home opener with a 1-1 record after splitting a pair of games on the road in Northern Ontario.

The Detroit Tigers extended its affiliation agreement with the Erie SeaWolves of the Eastern League through 2008. Erie has been affiliated with the Tigers since 2001.
The Gannon men’s soccer team played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Mercyhurst Wednesday afternoon. Dan Howell (Iroquois High School) jumped over a defender, weaved around the goalkeeper, and buried a shot into the net for the contest’s first goal. Mercyhurst tied the game when Kyle Jackson headed in a corner kick from Jason Pedra in the 66th minute to knot the rivalry match.
