Erie PA News and Events for Monday October 10, 2005

I could start another blog with the sometimes funny, sometimes strange and sometimes unusual search terms that people have found this Erie blog through search engines. The best one on Sunday was “membership restaurants and bars like at erie turners.” The person might have found what they were looking for if they knew that the term for a ‘membership restaurant and bar’ was a club.
The art galleries of Allegheny College will present the annual Faculty and Alumni Exhibit from Tuesday, October 11 through Wednesday, November 2. A public reception will be held in the galleries on Tuesday, Oct 11 from 7:30 to 9 pm. The art galleries will be closed Oct 15-18 for Fall Break. The exhibit will feature a variety of art works including drawings, sculpture, prints, photographs, video art, computer art and documentation of public art projects.
The Guelcher Film Series movie this week is Me and You and Everyone We Know. The film will be shown Wednesday, October 12, 2005, at 2 and 8 pm at the Mercyhurst College Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center.

The 2nd annual “Get on the Board”, an evening of Monopoly to benefit the Greater Erie Area Habitat for Humanity, will be held Friday October 14th at 6:30 pm at the Avalon Hotel. The cost is $25. For tickets call Jan at Habitat for Humanity, 454-7025.
The 18th annual Peek ‘n Peak Fall Fest will be held October 15 -16 and 22 - 23, 10 am to 5 pm daily. Admission and parking are free.
Gannon University will recognize a longtime faculty member and a regional philanthropist at its annual Scholarship Celebration. Stanley J Zagorski, professor emeritus, and James J Duratz, chairman of the Barco-Duratz Foundation, will be honored at the event. Zagorski and Duratz will be presented the Archbishop Gannon Medal of Distinction, annually given to individuals who have been instrumental in promoting the cause of Catholic higher education. Scholarship Celebration will be held Saturday, October 15, in the Yehl Room of the university’s Waldron Campus Center, 124 West Seventh Street.

The Speaker Series lecture by Joseph Stiglitz, Nobel Prize-winning economist and best-selling author, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, December 7, at 7:30 pm in the McGarvey Commons in the Reed Student Union Building at Penn State Behrend. The event is free and open to the public. The lecture had been previously scheduled for October 13.
