Erie PA News and Events for Thursday October 13, 2005
The auditing firm hired by Erie City Council found that the city needs to find $5.7 million to continue operating for 2005. The mayor asked an accounting firm to look at the finances. Last week they announced a nearly identical figure. It looks like they’ll take $700,000 from the sewer reserve fund and $5 million from the water reserve fund. That gets us through this year but 2006 is a different matter. They will be more layoffs and taxes and fees will be going up. The sewer and water reserve funds aren’t limiless pits. They are nearly gone.
IFP is holding a press conference today to unveil their logo. There is no word on when they will hold a groundbreaking on the $65 million fruit juice plant. They will produce private label (generic) juices.
Ten or so years ago North Coast Processing opened a plant in North East, PA to produce private label salad dressings as well as their own DEN Dressings label. They started off with a dozen or so employees and now employ over 150. e.d. Smith bought North Coast Processing last year.
Eric Anderson has been hired as Production Director in the Electronic Media Program at Raymond Walters College. He received his bachelor degree in applied media arts from Edinboro.

Erie is not the only city of its size in financial crisis. While each PA city has its unique way to create the financial crisis, the Erie Times has many news feeds from a sister city, York, PA in its paper. They need to do a parallel story between Erie and this:

and the related newspaper editorial:

which is appropriately titled \, 'AND YORK DIDN'T SEE IT COMING?"

I have a question about ZooBoo. We've never been to it before. Is it a costume thing or plain clothes? I'll look here if anyone posts an answer but feel free to e-mail me, anyone who can say. Thanks.
